They have arrived! Pics!

Congrats on the new additions!

I would say that if you want to change things up, yeah the background, but something else that was more vertical would be cool visually. Like a large longer branch from the top down or bottom up. This would give visual interest, them a feeling of cover, but open up the substrate a little bit more. That's just my 2 cents but you know what my tank looks like. :)

For me I have shifted things in my tank over time. I make sure any caves are intentional and are in places at the sides of the tank so I can see them when they use them. I have also ripped plants out over time to try and find a balance of giving them what they like but me being able to see them at all times. Like there was this one area that the Del liked and it could literally hide every inch of her so I thinned it out a lot. It's harder with baby fish though.

Yeah that's exactly how I feel.

I would love to do planted poly tank but I like to keep my tank extremely low light...

Yeah I think with the 300 gallon 5 polys would be pretty happy. I don't want to overload it because I'm a freak when it comes to clear and clean water.

+1 its very hard to have self control but i totally agree water quality is a hjgh priority for me too

ive had planted tanks in the past and unless they are annubias and jv type plants that can be tied down i woukd imagine it would be pretty hard to keep them in place with the larger LJ's. I have fake plants with rocks near them and somehow every now and then one gets knocked loose.

Others may have a different view

Yeah, for me planning a larger tank with LJs my tank will be set up very differently than it is now. I think mostly bare bottom with plants coming more from the top down like it might near a shoreline. Still not 100% sure how I would do it. I also would love branches coming down from the surface, but am not sure if they'd get hurt. My current polys definitely navigate around the DW when going to / coming back from the surface.

Or just build a rock wall around all plants haha. but seriously i think there may be ways to make some plants work. I'm really considering water lettuce like you have growing in your tank but i think my current may be a little too heavy at the top? I dont know. I may just spend 10 bucks to test it out and see what happens.

Yeah i think the larger tank would definitely be just driftwood and rocks. bare bottom as in just glass?

But I currently have a planted 30 gallon and unfortunately I'm struggling to find a fish that works in there that I genuinely care about like the polys. I just don't like the fact that i care more about the plants in the tank than the fish...
