They're baaaack.Tanked season two!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That show makes me really angry because they basically go, put the tank there, add water from a hose, add fish, voila instant fish tank. And it don't work like that!

They have to edit it out of the show so their show fits in the time length. They actually acclimate them all and everything. They are thinking about adding it in the future episodes though because many people have said the same thing you said to them. "Why dont you guys acclimate the fish, cycle the tank....blah blah blah"

Also, they add in the drama and crap for the kids who may be watching. They try to make it a family friendly show.

The only thing I hate is they stock some tanks really unprofessional...for instance the keg tank they made, they put in a huge fake coral insert and added like 30+ african cichlids and all they can do is swim in circles...horrible

Agreed,I realize they have to entertain the public but I just don't care for the histrionics and sillyness.

OH,YEAH!

Its funny that they think people are entertained by the drama and BS. I think a good comparison for this show is pretty much anything that doesn't suck on the home and garden channel. What makes holmes on homes good is how it gets into the nitty gritty not how he sticks his head in a cement mixer. If these people really are characters it will come out in the production naturally not from cheese tastic setups. Get into the structural nitty gritty and chemistry etc. The stuff that actually goes into a tank.

My parents watched one episode and couldn't take the BS the show was structured around. They don't care much for fish and yet they told me the show makes it seem like the fish and design/engineering of the tanks is the least interesting part of the job. Basically the show doesn't respect its own subject matter. When it is like that not even "the public" can get into it.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. Circular tanks and active fish... not a good combo. I've gone down that road with a hex before. Its like common you can put color and personality in there but you totally picked the wrong fish.

I never figured out how they setup a saltwater tank so fast, when I was told it takes at least 6 weeks tell you can add fish

Sent from my DROID Pro using MonsterAquariaNetwork App
Well they probibly use live bacteria to cycle the aquarium imminently. I mean if they did not do something like that the fish would probably die.

A show that isn't tied to one company would be soo much better. Then they could jump back and fourth between different parts of the world and built tanks vs ones being build etc. The high end aquarium world is so broad but the process of designing/building is very time consuming.

Off topic but you brought it up and I don't mind talking about it but HGTV seems to have really gone down over the years. They seemed to have dropped or changed a few of the older shows for some newer, not as good shows.....Holmes is one of the better newer shows.

They quoted me 22k for a 12x4x4 tank not including shipping just the tank. I know material costs more the taller you go but that seemed like a lot Guess they dont have time for the little people anymore.
