Things I learned from a pet store last night.

LMAO

Yep. I bought 2 of those and returned one of them that had 2 missing fins. The other one that I took is fine. His fins are all grown back. They're so crooked and sneaky, but they have the best selection in town.

thats amazing! there was one a petland I went to in Calgary where I ended up teaching the stupid 15 year old girl about different fish in the form of questions :P I've worked in an LFS when i was only 15 so I do know what its like if you don't know the answer for something, but I never have bull****ted customers. Luckily now i know tons about fish, more people need to research about their jobs

would you let me be a heart surgeon if i knew nothing?

Yeah. I really like that stingray they put in the front tank... I wish I could have it. I guess its brackish though? I brought my cigar sharks down there yesterday, and they are in the tank with the stingray. If you're by there, go by and check them out. I'm really curious what they intend do sell them for.

I lucked out with my ornates. They had their fins. They've grown like crazy in the time i've had them, but they aren't terribly social. They only come out after dark.

Same here. Mine hides all day. I saw that ray. He's a beauty. I'll check out the fish you took down there. Also, they have a 2 inch zebra pleco going for $199 after being marked down from $299.

Yeah, I looked at them. They are in really bad shape. Missing fins and whatnot. There is another wichita MFKer who loves plecos, and noted on how bad they were. one of the things they told me is that although they have brackish fish, none of their tanks are actually brackish.

Unfortunately a lot of stores have employees like this and to those people its just a job I don't see it getting much better because its easier to hire someone with less knowledge for such low pay, but there are some of us who really enjoy the job and want to help people out, I can't count the number of times I've tried to get people to buy pellets instead of feeders or that you need to do water changes more than once every 2 months just to have them stare at me blankly or accuse me of trying to sell them something they don't need.
