Who has or has had things n there african tank that they were experimenting with when maybe a few to many people said it wouldnt work?

I saw the pleco + african thread,I suppose those plecos would fit into this category,But Im not so much talking about bottom feeders as open water fish.

As for the bottom feeders though I know people also do clown loaches in their rift setups from time to time.

I personally hace tried:

-a jewel cichlid -picked on

-a kribinsis cichlid -killed

-bichirs (senegal,palmas,delhizi) -did fine but one jumped,no proof it was because of the water parameters.....bichirs jump

-whiptail cats -still there

-Royal Farlowella Cat -died,dont think its body shape allowed it to get much to eat in my tank with all the rockwork,and it never did eat agae wafers...possible water parameter problem.

-Fire eel -still there

-Purple spotted Gudgeon -was awesome,one of my favorite fish,but got picked on more and more till it jumped.....really think it would work with a bit more peacful africans,no mbuna

Ive also seen people do redtail black sharks in a hap tank.

Water..........they hated it.

Seriously, I havent experimented much.

~~~clown loaches.......killed
~~~electric cat.........still in there somewhere!!!! seen once in 3 months.......oh and only a few small fry missing nothing signifigant!!!!

~~~hueta (rocket gar) x 2........lived in harmony for 2 yrs............pretty much killed!!!
~~~Zig zag type eel..........killed after a while!

have not added a single fish to that tank (125 gal) in over 6 months......so finally peace & harmony!~!!

p.s. my tank is a predominantly a mbuna tank but i have 4 fronts 3'' up to 7'' doing wonderful as well as a tropheus moori!!!;)

Blue lobster (crayfish) made it until first molt. I call it my $15 feeder mistake.
I had some South American cichlids, Geo eartheaters in there. they did fine, but I removed them because they just looked wrong in there. I started a new tank with them- much better.

I have 6 silver dollars in my 125g mbuna tank several months now.The cichlids are young adults,but are breeding,they show almost no interest in the silver dollars.Stll I think Ill move them to another 125g when my rotkiels get a little bigger

With my Africans I have/had:
Bumble bee catfish - still there, rarely seen
Datnoid - still there, gets along great might I add
Jack Dempsy - worked out fine, but moved her to another tank with a male so they can breed.
YoYo Eel - Jumped the tank after a year but he was fine also
Peacock Eel- Jumped the tank also but he seemed fine

Thats it I never ever had any problems as far as those fish getting picked on or them picking on my other fish. Water params didnt seem to bother any of them either all of them I've had in there 6+ months before taking them out or the eels jumping.

2 common plecos - wanted to grow them over winters and put them in my pond in the spring. Sold them a month ago i didnt think they'd get that BIG that fast.

green phantom, peppermint, queen ara. - picked on to death or didnt take well to the parameters. sold or died :(

Bristlenose - doing great

firemouth, tiger barbs, red fin shark - did well but didnt fit, sold.

red claw crab - crawled away :(

rufus red peacock - my peacock owned him :(

Rock Krib - fits in well, but is getting picked on, might tank him out soon.

ive had the worst luck with some of these things. But besides the rock krib everything else im going amazing.

I have tried a golden wonder killie... had to tank problem... He was surrounded and pinned in the corner my a one inch little mbuna... he was taken out and moved... thought you would get a kick out of that...

i have had Clown loaches, bumble bee cats, apple snails, silver dollars, painted tetras, mollies, platies, and right now i have adult guppies with my 3" frontosa
