Things That Are Said Incorrectly So Much That They Are Accepted As Correct

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not accepted by everyone, but generally speaking, by the masses.

"I could care less" (if you could care less then why don't you? lol)

"intensive purposes"

The term actually is; 'I couldn't care less'.

The other phrase is supposed to be; 'For all intents and purposes'.

How many of you say aloominum when its aluminum that really bug's me.

Actually, I've seen many BBC science specials where the metal was referred to as a-l-u-m-i-n-i-u-m.

One that really gets to me is one that I see here on MFK often. When someone has something for sale but they have it ''for sell''. For example, ''Dovii fry for sell''..... They are for SALE !! For SALE !!! FOR SALE !!!!!!!! Not for sell !!!!

uh, yea professor, that is kind of what the thread is about. wrong ways to say things that have generally been accepted as being correct. which is why i listed what i listed in the op

uh, yea, again, that was just me being sarcastic to chris, lol

Working in the semiconductor industry everyone in the industry in the states says it a-l-u-m-i-n-u-m. Not sure how some of the Brits got the extra i in there, but I've even met several British and French nationals that pronounce it more in line with how I just mentioned.

AL-YOU-MIN-EEE-UM.

AL-YOU-MIN-EEE-UM.

Ive heard it that way on documentaries and things as well, so much so that I assumed all Brits said it that way. Now I think one of the two is a regional thing.
