Things That Traumatized You as a Kid

but that's not real trauma.
walking home from kindergarten in san jose, a strange man tried to lure me into his car. followed my along the curbside, persisting until I ran crying all the way to babysitters house. cops came, trying to get description info from me.
there had been some incidents in the area.

About 10 yrs old. me and a friend were held against our will by teenage boys, while walking home across town. they'd let us go to run a ways off, then chase us down & bring us back. one was amused by me hitting them. seemed like it wasn't the first time they'd done it to girls.
I wondered if they might kill us or something.
Cops found them. didn't even charge with a crime because the boys thought it was a game.
WTH? Sadistic little sociopathic bstrds. I had to walk around my with that in my head.

traumatized enough that I never let my daughter walk to bus or school until she was in HS. she held some kind of self conscious complex against me about being the ONLY one who couldn't.
but I just don't trust the world at large, with kids.

I wasn't going to metion this one but what the heck...Me and mother were out doing run arounds one day and when we got back home to our apartment, the locks to the door had been changed and all of our belongings were piled up at the curb....The landlord had thrown us out!...While we were out!My toys and clothes had been picked through by the neighborhood kids and as I looked down the street,I saw a kid riding off with my brand new BMX bike..I don't know about trauma but just imagine the range of emotions that I was overcome with at that time....

damn, that's messed up. what's the backstory to that? why'd he kick you out and what ended up happening?

Well,as a young kid I wasn't really privy to our financial situation at the time and,I guess my mother did the best she could to keep it that way.She had fallen behind in the rent payments I guess...Such an eviction is illegal by the way but I don't think she knew that it was back then. That kind of thing was very common years ago but landlords wouldn't dare try it nowadays....for various reasons. We gathered up what was left of our things and waited for one of my uncles to come and pick us up.

yea I was thinking they can't legally do that. but, i'm glad you turned out alright brotha. it's those hard times you go thru that shape you

that would feel pretty bad.
in 2nd grade, our place was burglarized with accompanied vandalism- wall damage etc., they emptied my piggy bank of every hard-earned coin. we were living poor, so that was my only treasure.
But eviction plus seeing your bike would be worse. at least I never saw anyone riding my dimes around.

...or spending them, not that you would be able to tell it was yours.

it was kinda creepy living there afterwards. not knowing who in the neighborhood had done it.
