yea i am an oscar kinda guy but tired of my tank being like this. forgot to mention i AM moving in spring. may move in with a lifelong friend of mine ( both our familys known eachother for YEARS ) or if not ill be moving on my own.
is it bad that i want to just start collecting tanks now?? anyways, i understand what everyone is saying, and yes im tired of my tank being like this. even though its a 5 foot 18 wide tank, i want fish that will be peacful and happy, and can handle my bioload ( filter ) and 20 percent water change a week. when i move out ill beable to do anything i want. told my friend hes gunna have to accept my fish hobby and he said thats fine, were moving to an apt and splitting the bills. so that will be no prob, if that doesnt go through ill just find a place on my own. i AM moving in or before spring time though, thats a deffinate!

Using more water isn't gonna significantly increase the water bill. The amount of water used to change my tank is no more than taking 4 baths. If your pretty much paying for water bill you should be able to use as much water as you damn well please. I know you grandparents will disagree but its true.
yea its split 4 ways for the bill.

so since i did my water change last wed, should i wait tell next friday or what?

Are you talking about Wednesday the 15th or Wednesday the 8th ?

In a perfect world you should be able to take care of your fish they way they need to be taken care of, but sounds like Grandma is not a fish fan. Please consider what everyones has been telling you and down size a lot. If you do move in the spring and can take care of your tank the right way then put a couple more fish in or better yet take down the 110 and put it away until you have the place, the money and ablitity to take care of it and just stay with the little tank.

As for the beta and shrimp with plants, are you going to be able to clean and change water in that tank? With shrimp, they need clean water, a heater and good food. Don't mix ghost shrimp in with dwarf shrimp like cheery red as the ghost shrimp will sometimes kill them.

yea ill beable to clean them. and i can start doing 20 gallon water change on my big tank now ( i know its not alot but still better then once every 2 weeks or once a month ) i may see if i can get a 55 for now and put my 110 away tell i move. but yea once a week im also gunna start collecting tanks ( hope gospal center has aLOT of tanks for cheap. the place is kinda like goodwill, so they dont only sell tanks there, alot of other stuff to ) along with doing a 20 percent water change ( 20 gallons ) she said i cant go under a half of my tank so that means????

no wont beable to get to the bank tell next week, i was hoping to start dong water change every friday ( thats when i get paid ) think they will be fine tell then?

I think if you can't do it till Monday when the banks open there is not much else you can do.

As for the 55 idea, how about a little smaller like, 30 and just go with small and pretty fish so Grandma will let you take care of them the right way. None of this is going to work if you overcrowd the smaller tanks, you know that right?

I agree the you are being taken advantage of, but as you need to live there right now you have to go by their rules. Have you thought about asking them if there is a job or chore you can do around the house so you don't have to pay them more money?

Seriously LBF, come on. You can't take reasonable care of 2 of the most tough fish that can take the abuse of an absolute novice, there is no way on this earth that you will be able to take proper care of shrimp and maintain a heavily planted tank. You have mentioned in other threads that you are short of money, what about fertiliser and CO2 or even just setting it up?

You just don't have the situation for it, you are not allowed to make more than a 20 gallon change on your 110. What are you going to do with shrimp and a betta, split the 20 gallons between the 2 tanks????
You say in post #73 that you love fish more than humans yet you continue to act in selfish ways with fish which end up placing them in danger, for example you know you are in no position to care for fish properly in your current home situation but you just can't see the big picture and wait until you move out to have a nice tank with big fish.

Not only that but you are now considering a 2nd tank with more sensitive species in. Honestly from where I am sitting a pattern is emerging in your behaviour and it looks like it doesn't matter to you what happens to the fish or the conditions that you have to keep them in, as long as you can have fish their welfare doesn't matter.
You continue to make threads that have roughly the same theme and it is constantly around restocking or reducing stock, which you never do, getting advice which you never take and you refuse to learn.
You use your disabilities like some sort of excuse to constantly ignore all the sound advice people give you, that can only get you so far before even the most sympathetic ear towards disabilities, like me, catches on to you and realises that all you care about is having fish no matter their condition in your care.
