Thinking about a Tang Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol i know right. Could i maybe do some sand sifters instead of the shellies? i like the multies but the fact of having to get right up to the tank to see them sucks. 1.25 inch fish hiding in a shell in a 4ft tank lol

Like Mike said, they're still pretty noticeable. They aren't too small; especially if you have a good number of them. If you want to keep sand sifters you have to keep the rocks/decor at a minimal, they like large open areas covered with sand. IMO, unless you plan on using a 3D background, I find that the lack of rocks/decor sort of takes away from the aquarium.

Hmm i guess i shouldnt have assumed lol. I will probably stick with the shelldwellers, they put on quite the show

If you want a show, go w/the sand sifters. you should really see them in action. Males will display, flashing their colors in the light. pretty neat to watch.

@junglej
if i were to go with the sandsifters instead, could i do half the tank with just open sand, and then do the other half piled with rocks for the Calvus and Cyps? and how many would be a good starting number?
Sorry for all the questions, i just want to have this planned out in advance lol this will be my first tank.

Well i think i narrowed it down to what i want to stock it with. Let me know what you think

Pair/Trio of Calvus (start out with 6)
2-3 Callochromis Strappersi
8 Cyp. Leptosoma Utinta

If this sounds okay, Then this will be my last post untill i have my tank setup!! Again, i want to thank everybody for their imput and advice:)
