uhhhhh i'm still lost...... lol j/k it does get annoying when people do go out and buy things without researching first to find out what they have is not suitable for what they are stuck with. but when noobs come in here asking for advice (actually doing research before they buy) never gets old to me. as mentioned before we all have a place to start and for some of us mfk was it. this thread had me

OMG. Ban Miles for making us LEARN.

Miles is one of my better friends on this site(we both live in E. Wash too, I like ALL Washington members better than anyone else on here:ROFL:)....Friends (when adults) can disagree, it is actually healthy to have differing oppinions...I hear his point loud and clear. He is one of the top dogs here under 50:D I just have the complete opposite opinion on this matter....

OMG, since I do not know you or your "joking" ways apparently, when I opened this and read it my jaw dropped....

WOW, am I glad you are kidding...and that I read the rest of the thread before replying LMAO....boy was I going to give you a good talking to:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Point well taken, and very good!!!

Rico, I agree that people should be able to ask questions here.

I also agree with Miles. They should ask their questions and get some definitive answers, BEFORE they make their purchases!

You both have valid points.

I agree. I respect Miles, flat out, and point blank....

I don't mind helping n00bz that politely seek advice, knowledge, and comprehend it and apply it.. Makes my job and MFK very satisfying when people actually use the advice..

I do mind when people buy trophy animals spontaneously for all the wrong reasons, have no idea how to previously care for them, and then come on MFK and 'demand' that all the information 'put in my lap' because research is just 'too hard.'..

Keep in mind, by the time they make it to MFK ~ they more than likely fall into the later category.

I love it when people come into the ray forum and go "I want a Motoro for my 125g, will it work".. instant reply is "no", and the user says, "Okay I won't get a ray.'..

I hate it when people come into the ray forum and go "I have a Motoro in my 125g, will it work".. instant reply is "no", and the user says, "Okay well the other dude said.. "

------------------------------------------------------

It's like at work.. if people ask politely for my opinion or knowledge, they've opened a book of unlimited resources.

If they come into my work.. tell me how to do my job, tell me what fish does what, and demand I bag them there fish.. well. I don't say 2 words. They just CLOSED a book of unlimited resources.

Could I try to impose my opinion, and 'help the world' as I see it.. yeah, sure, I used to.. but then I came to the realization that majority of the general public are about as apathetic to learn as I am to help. It's tough to say where the ring of ignorance begins, the consumer or the provider.

edit: to add the word politely.

Quick 'lil story about yesterdays best customer..

A guy came into work the other day, asked if we had any Tanganyika cichlids..

I pointed out to him we carried Tropheus not too long ago, but no Tanganyika.. I said we only carry Victoria and Malawi (Im such an african n00b) .. well anyways for some reason I thought the Aulonocara came from Victoria. Well he corrected me and let me know that you dont see Victorian Cichlids very often, and these were all Malawi.

He than assumed he knew more than I would ever know because of that 1 mistake.. he then explained to me the Mbuna family, lake Malawi, how to classify a Psuedotrophues, which ones were Hybrids, the history of labidochromis..

He then narrated a short novel on his tanks at home, the fish hes previously owned and bred, and how awesome he was at keep african cichlids..

Of course I didnt try to interrupt him, or play the 'big fish' game that I see so many customers get into (my tank is bigger than your tank, etc).. I didn't even say 2 words, don't think I could have..

He enjoyed telling his stories, I wouldn't call it 'talking fish', because I didnt get to say much.. Not like I could have contributed, afterall Peacocks come from Victoria  .. but yeah I could of tried to whip out my big johnson and be like "well I breed stingrays and I have a 400g tank and i used to import" blah blah blah..

but nah I just said I had some brichardi's once and they were fun.. then he corrected me on my 'fraunch' pronunciation.

Also loved how he told me to check out only good LFS in town, because thats where he shops.. (This is where I got my first 3 rays from).. that LFS even sells Stingrays! That's what he told me.. wow!

After that, it was time to make up a fake project and discontinue the story-telling..

It was fun.. can't stand those customers. Do you keep fish to brag or for enjoyment? I bet if he was on MFK he would have a really long signature and over 10k posts.

It sucks that he assumed he knew so much and let me speak so little.. maybe he would of learned some stuff from a guy half his age? Naaa.. he works for a corp. pet store :D
