Thinking about discus...

Thats a joke how can you say my fish stunted some of those fish are not that old . I traded some of the larger fish for smaller ones. they are still growing .

I know what stunted Discus look like. Some of your fish are stunted. If you knew a thing or 2 about Discus, it would be that younger Discus get stunted very easily. As for water quality, pfft, Discus grow a lot faster in high alkaline water. Sorry dude, but you really should stop. Discus becoming sterile by being kept in hard water? HAHA! I had a good laugh from that. High TDS levels will keep Discus eggs from hatching, it does NOT make a Discus sterile. Again, just stop.

here is what THE CICHLID ROOM CHAMPANION MARC WEISS HAD TO SAY;AVOID BROADSTOCK RAISED IN HARD WATER ALKALINE WATER. THIS MY LEAD TO CALCIUM DEPOSITS IN THE SPERM DUCTS,AS A MALE GROWS UP,THESE CAN BE POOR BREEDERS OR EVEN FUNCTIONALLY STERILE. DISCUS RAISED AT A PH ABOVE NEUTRLPH7 LACK GOOD DISEASE RESISTTSANCE ,AND ARE HARDER TO ACCLIMATIZE TO NEW EVIRONMENTS,DISCUS CAN BE AND HAVE BEEN BRED EVEN IN PARTIAL SEAWATER,BUT I PREFER TO STACK THE ODDS IN OUR FAVOR! IT MAY BEMA YEAR OF SUPERLATIVE CARE DOWN THE DRAIN, SHOULD WE ADD RISK FACTORS INTENTIONALLY EARLY ON.

That information and my information come from research.I do know that there are my different view on the subjects . But for people to say I am ingorant to the topics in not correct. All my views are share by others and not shared by other.

What a load of BS. Calcium deposit in sperm duct.. LOL. Lack good disease resistance? Honestly, give me the site you got this from. Harder to acclimate? HAHA! I'm getting a really good laugh from this. Redo your research. Btw, this "research" sounds like a bunch of crap someone put together thinking they know better.

If you are so smart there is the information above you should to be able to fine it from that.

When he said raised in hard water and high ph ,He means all the way to to aulthood. Jeviniles grow faster in slightly hard water and higher ph but when they get about four inches it is time to start soften the water and lower the ph. Even if I am wrong about the sterile factor the fish come from the amazon which is soft water and has a ph 0f about 6.Yes captive fish do learn to adjust but why not give them them what nature would. The reason jeviniles are not raised in softer water and lower ph from the start is because it would induce spawning.to early and slow their grown rate but I gave earlier those rate for display ,growth and breeding but 8ph and over no way .Discus take about two year to become ready for breeding. As for the one that so strongly do not agree ,my question to you is have you ever breed Discus before?I am not talking to the guy who who stated he had no interest in breeding.

Doc...stop blowing your own horn and search me on Simply Discus...if you were less arrogant you might use this and other forums as a menans to learn something instead of relying on BS printed by someone else! There are thousands of myths posted and written about discus, most of them propagated by people that want to make money from the hobby be selling products meant to "properly care" for certain fish...think Marc Wise...

In any case...your fish are as far from the Amazon as a flowerhorn is from a natural form cichlid. To insinuate what the fish requires as conditions by comparing them to Amazonian fish just, once again, show your ignorance in the subject...comparing a fish bred and raised in a tank somewhere in Asia, hundreds if not thousands of generations removed form the wils to a wild fish is just dumb.

Do you even know the source of your fish? Do you know under wat conditions they were bred in? Maybe you should and then you will learn something...

Your fish are sub par and some are stunted, no doubt because you bought them as juvies and screwed them up but who cares...in your mind they are great, in your mind you know what you are talking about, and in your mind the world as it is written in the internet must be true! :) Now go on and go do a water change using all the buffers and chemicals recomended by Marc Weiss...we wouldn't want you fish to calcify!
