Thinking about getting fiance a present for christmas

How would you feel if you where given a puppy for xmas? imo no pet, particularly something that will need the care and attention rays need should be bought in this manner. I would however suggest doing the research that you are.. source a breeder, CB fish are heartier in general... and present him with the option..If he wants a ray he will be all over it, and it will also show you care about the animals and arent just trying to make him happy. It will also give the opportunity to go threw the process with him of picking a fish ect... and i think most the guys around here would love a fiance/wife whos involved at least a little bit in the hobby. I know my husband likes picking out fish with me ect, even though im the one passionate about them he enjoys being apart of it.

my husband bought me a birthday present 2 yrs ago that hes happy to say is "ours" i bugged him for weeks... so he said " are you sure? " then told me the ship date the next day. This was after discuessing what future tank size wede need ect...

I agree. You could by everything to get the tank set up but let him decide which fish to keep in it. The tank setup will cost enough alone.
 
I agree.. get the biggest tank thats feasible.. because youll never get one big enough. I keep retics.. one of the smaller species and they where cute when small... but even they grow fast. at 6 monthes they are outgrowing a 120... so I would start with a min 180 of 6'x2' footprint. If you can find something with a 30" depth to begin with ide go for it. def start watching craigslist for deals, and talk to the local stores about how much one would cost... once they know your seriousely looking they will be itching to make the deal. or even talk to a builder about how much a custom tank will cost...sadly i cant even say retics are " cheap" rays to own. between food and tanks weve got approx 1k invested into 60$ fish... so the initial price of a ray shouldn't be a focus ( shop around but have no illusions feeding and husbandry needs will quickly outprice the initial investment of the fish )
