Craigslist is hands down the place for tanks. Be willing to drive a couple hours to get the best deal for the biggest tank. For filtration if you are using canisters look on eBay for sun suns great flow rate and size for the cost. You can buy a few for what you would pay for 1 fx5. Plus if it breaks you can buy another for 120 and still be cheaper than the fx and now have spare parts.

For rays unless they are captive bred I would stay away from the hystrix and retic pups for first timers. There are lots of breeders on this site that I'm sure would have no problem helping you guys out and give some great advise so you can keep it a surprise longer.

And for the tank it's better to go big the first time cause he will want more and they grow fast.

If you get a teacup stingray you can keep it in a pair in a 40 breeder. For filtration I will use a sponge filter and one of those corner air driven filters. If you add a second sponge filter you will only have to do a 25 percent water change once a month.

Ya there is no way you can keep one let alone two retics (teacup) stingrays in a forty breeder. Seriously dooooo not even attempt that. They need way more room then that.

What kind of canister filter would you say I should look for on ebay?
