this is eds fish. he sold it but apparently it is made from texas x parrot. it is the only red texas out of the bunch unless he kept one a secret. I saved this pic off aquabid as an example of a home made rt

Water this is a good point two I still have many wierd looking bodies from srt x escondido growouts. about half of them have a small tail and big anal/dorsal fins which is a slight sb shape. I also have one with a deformed fin and a half short body. Apparently this can happen too and is probably a result of parrot blood. Getting a good red/purple fertile rq female would probably give a higher percentage of red texas-ish traits in the offspring but would not result in any sb texas unless the female was rm (possibly? this is just a guess though)

Just depends on what you want i guess. but if you want to make your own red texas the most sure way would be to invest in one or two proven females with full fade and pearl (if you can afford it lol). Your texas male is very nice so you could get some rts out of this cross. The reason rts are so expensive though is that you will still get only about a quarter full red texas babies. But the other ones will be nice texases like this

which are still nice fish imo and can still be worth a considerable amount of money if they are good quality

With breeding red texas though it seems to be most often you get either a pearly fish with slight red undertone or a full fade fish with few pearls - this is why red tex are made by rt x tex instead of rt x red fish (+the fact that many reds are sterile males)
I have heard a number of times that the most difficult trait to get through in the cross is the pearl
otherwise you will get lots of fish like this

which are technically nothing except a mixed fader (and arent even technically flowerhorn)
both pics are my fish and came from the same batch of srt x nice tex.
out of eight of these that i raised I only have now one full srt. (though one died that I thought would change soon)

This is why red tex are and will always be valuable. This is also why petsmart putting up a rt label was a ridiculous idea.

WATER - FH are starting to grow on me. they look like little swimming buses. haha. but im not a fan of the huge nuchal bump or shortbodies.

that does sound real cheap for a huge red texas but im not planning on buying her but i can dream

color is nice. i wonder what he/she looks like now. do you know if it was a blood parrot or kkp? is that a F1?

so there lies another big problem, pearls AND color. are those 2 pics of them at the same age? post more pics!

what about using a very red flowerhorn female to get some red? then cross the hopefully fertile offspring with each other or back to either parents. i dont even know if theyre very expensive, which if they are i wouldnt use her.

i would said he/ she just like a SB golden Fh !
red colur on the body ( half body) and with the little pearl !
i was breed pair golden fh before, have few look like that too!

Here's a carpintis x kkp I kept. I love him.

Most of the pearly ones that faded early were Orange. This guy is normally half red/gold and the bars are disappearing (sucks cause I really like the stripes on him for some reason). Head is down due to a recent spawn.
