Glass thickness is determined by height, so if you build a tank the same height you can use the same glass as the 55.

I can give you details to the process when you're ready, but basically, you fit and fill the tank with the liner in it to get it situated. Drain and dry the tank. Install the gasket on the liner, attach the glass to the gasket, put braces behind the glass to hold in place, let it cure, refill the tank to test the fit. If everything is good, you cut out the liner section to expose the window.

Yah, I think I could use the 55g glass, but I think I'd be more comfortable going with thicker glass, and since its only $140, I think that's doable. Plus then I'll have a single pane of glass, rather then several panes with dividers between them.

That process is basically what I had planned on doing :). I will pm you with questions once I get to that point, I'm sure.

I've also asked for updated pricing on Pond Coat (perma-dri). Last quote I got was $276 for a 5 gallon bucket shipped to my door.

That's a lot more expensive than an $89 liner, but then I have to weld the gasket to it and try to silicone it to that. Is it worth the hassle of being cheaper?

You also have to fight with the liner. I'd spend the extra money, as I am, for the Pond Coat.

I might do that. I'm selling a 125g tank to help pay for it, so once thats sold I can start buying materials.

So its going to be either 6x3x2 or 8x3x2.

Will have either 1 front window or 1 front and 2 side windows.

Will *probably* use Pond Coat to waterproof.

For a 6' with just the front window, using pond coat, it would be about $550. For an 8' with all 3 windows, using pond coat, it would be about $690. That's just for the tank, no stand.

I just priced Pond Armor, and its about $100 cheaper than the Pond Coat (Perma-dri). I may end up using that instead, depending on how pricing for the other stuff pans out.

I would do a search of this forum. I want to say Pond Armor is a product that a lot of peope have had problems with. If you want to use epoxy I would look into Raka, West Systems, System 3, Max ACR or USComposites.

Don't quote me on Pond Armor as I may be wrong about that.

Pond Armor is indeed SLIGHTLY cheaper.

Blue Max by Ame's Research could be a viable option for you if you don't mind a blue tank and want to go cheaper.

I'm probably going to try it on some tanks i'm building

I like the Pond Coat the best, as it seems easy to apply, is strong, and all that jazz.

I like the Pond Armor because its slightly cheaper and comes in other colors.

I don't like the color of Blue Max, but the price is pretty good in comparison.

I'm going to check out a 220g acrylic tank with nice dimensions tomorrow after work. Thank is 72"Lx30"Wx24"T. The tank comes with a stand, and the guys asking $300. He would ask more, but he can't guarantee that it holds water. When he got it, it had been running until 2 weeks before he acquired it. It's been sitting in his garage for 8 months unused, the only reason he didn't set it up was he couldn't get it in his house. He assures me it will hold water, however.

What do you guys think about that kind of deal? I'm going to check it out tomorrow, and I'll remeasure and take some pics. Is a tank of those dimensions + stand for $300 a good deal, if he can't do a leak test for you?
