Okay, so my collection is darn near complete. I own at least one of every species that Toyin offers, and I'm missing only the most rare, excluding Ansorgii.

So once you collect it, and you know it'll be years before it's complete, do you keep the collection?

I won't lie - I have serious favorites. I LOVE endlis, as you all know, and I like my laps and my pollis a lot. But the weeksiis, and the retros, and the mokes, and the buettes... in my opinion, they're taking up space that I could use for fish I truly enjoy. But they're "collection" fish. If I trade them for more of the species I like, my collection wouldn't be complete. Is it enough to say you owned them? Do you think you HAVE to own them all at the same time to say you did it? Really? I used to think that, but now I'm not so sure. Sure, saying you own them all is very prestigious, but isn't part of fish keeping the joy the fish bring you? And being able to say "yes, I LIKE my fish, each and every last one of them?

So I guess my question here is... if you had your collection, or at least what was feasable to own... would you chuck it to own fish you love?

i would say to go with your heart. seems like you have quite a few duplicates.
you can trim some of the fat and just keep your favorite retro(-1), buet (-2),
weeksii (-1), moke (-1). that is 5 polys right there, and you can still say you
have at least one of each sp. best of both worlds :)

i'd say keep the ones you like best. it's always hard to part with fish but if someone else is going to enjoy them more than you feel you are now, pass them along or trade etc. Just make sure to take lots of pics of em (then post of course) before they go so you'll still have something. deep. lol

Had this happen with my tarantulas. Had 300 of the buggers at one time. Now I have 30. I had all the species that I wanted, and I kept them for about six months. Keep in mind that some tarantulas have a lifespan of 30+ years. After that, I was just like.... "Hmmm... some of these aren't what I expected." So I just sold off the excess and now I'm at a comfortable 30 spiders.

For me at least, it's about having the animal to see what it's like, how it behaves. I love to study the habits of different animals. They never cease to amaze me. However, if it's one of those that just isn't what I expected... bah, I pass it along to someone I know appreciates it's unique attitudes and appearances. The point of the rambling here is this: If you really aren't as impressed as you thought you'd be with the animal, your enthusiasm tends to fade quickly and you find yourself resenting it in ways, and that's never a good thing. Your personal collection should never consist of more than exactly the animals you know you adore. That way, they'll never have less than your full attention.

Hello Keeper, I've discovered over time that I have a "COLLECTOR" gene in my DNA somewhere, sounds like maybe you do too! You start to put together a group of items that interest you, and then quickly discover there are many more that you know nothing about! You set your mind on acquiring these, only to find out you've only scratched the surface. It now becomes a "search for the Holy Grail" of your objects! The fun is the chase, not in the having! More is better-More is better! However the truth is "When is enough-enough!" My solution was to take lots of pictures, with lots of information, like; how long I had them, how much they had grown, their names, what made each one unique. Then I kept my TRUE FAVORITES and passed the rest along! I even donated several to Sea World! It was a very freeing experience. I've slowed down and am much more appreciative of what I have! Just one solution! Good Luck!

i would look at each individual ask yourself when was the last time i sat down and watched this fish you know the ones you like and send the rest to me
