it now becomes a "search for the Holy Grail"

i just hope montey python isnt writing the script.

i would go with hapdudes, xrayz and just about everyone elses suggestion, pick the ones you like best and sell/donate the rest. good luck.

yup .. been there done that .. been hoarding, been selling/trading off

i guess you don't know what you like until you collect ... knowing that some don't do anything for you other taking space, sell/trade them off and keep what is dear to your heart ...

Had this happen with my tarantulas. Had 300 of the buggers at one time. Now I have 30. I had all the species that I wanted, and I kept them for about six months. Keep in mind that some tarantulas have a lifespan of 30+ years. After that, I was just like.... "Hmmm... some of these aren't what I expected." So I just sold off the excess and now I'm at a comfortable 30 spiders.

A fellow spider man. You got one of these? I keep trying to brush it off but it keeps climbing back up. LOL

I'd say only keep what you really like.

I think I would stay with the collection for now. Im mean i like some more than others but having a near complete collection is special.

Perhaps... Perhaps in my mind, the Ansorgii was MY holy grail. And I have her. She's in my bedroom, hanging out, showing off her checkerboard sides to me whenever I want to see her. Maybe to me, she was the final step, and once I got her, I just don't see the point in keeping ones I don't like anymore. And all of you are quite right. If there are other people who will enjoy my fish more than myself, they should have them. And if they aren't my favorites, they wouldn't get the care that they COULD get. So, if anyone in the Dallas area is looking for bichirs, I'm taking the following list to The Gallery:

1 5'' retro
2 13'' Buettekoferi
2 9'' Weeksii
1 7'' Mokelembembe
1 6'' Senegal, with a cute little defect
1 6'' Ornate
1 12'' Ornate
*also outbound*
Unknown Cichlid, 5''ish
Butterfly fish
15'' snowflake eel
3 honduran point cons

i agree with what others suggested. personally i don't think getting something just for the sake of collecting or completing a collection is a good idea. i think thats why i don't like calling my fish my 'collection'. anyway, i'll admit i have my favorites too, i'm sure we all do, but at the same time i don't feel any is there just taking up space. so, good luck :)

That's a nice one. Haven't seen those imported yet. Has anyone been able to identify it? LOL... seriously man... nice tat.

I recently changed my "collecting agenda" as well. I too was (and I guess, still am) trying to collect all the species, but I'm in no rush to finish as I wouldn't know where to go from there. I also enjoy the Endis and Laps and have recently been purchasing more as fish that I will keep long term and grow-out. I figured I will inevitably want more of these in the future, so I might as well get more at the same size as my current Endis and grow them out together, rather than wait and try to purchase larger fish later.
That being said I will buy all the polypterus you don't want, just ship them to me...esp those weeksi :D.

One trip to the LFS later... :D...

I'm down 2 Buettes, 1 mutt cichlid, 2 ornates, 1 retropinnis, and a snowflake eel. But I'm UP one beautiful Nigerian endli, and a pair of Guinea laps, with a request in for one Guinea endli on the next Toyin order.
