I've been looking for a light that would fit in a 90 gallon 48" canopy, was thinking about the retrofits but i couldn't find a 6 bulb ballast, then i came across this: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~action~view~idProduct~SL2119~idCategory~FILTFIT58U~category~48in_Units~vendor~~tab~0.html

Looks good to me, but I'm still new to lighting, so i thought i would see what you guys thought about it.

And do you think i could fit this in a 90 gallon canopy? i measured and there's only about .5" space left width wise... could i mount it to the top so it comes up every time i opened it?

one of the best lights made. in a 90 gallon, i might recomend the 8 bulb fixture, as this will increase your coral keep and what not. Depending on what your keeping will usually make the decision.

if you want a lot of LPS and SPS id do the 8 bulb, but if you want mostly softies and what not, the 6 bulb is fine. I think however you will be much happier with spending the extra money for the 8 bulb.

a down side to the TEK models is they do not come with any stock bulbs. i dont mind because i like to customize my color anyways but it is a bit pricey of hand. No big deal with as long as bulbs last.

again this is all just my opinion.

Well i don't think the 8 bulb one will fit in my canopy...

Just remeasured, it would be pushing it, i wouldn't be able to reach in the tank as there would be no room at all left... and i would like to mount the light on the lid of the canopy so i can have full access to the tank, if that would be possible.

would the 6 bulb one be able to have any LPS and SPS corals?

You could also try and go to home depot, or lowes and get some work lights, they are about 8 dallars. Can are about 48inches.

Do they sell good enough T5s?

LFS had a sale on some CF lights, guy said they were better than the T5... i'm not sure though. think i'm still gonna go with the T5s

lol, CF better then T5, theres a joke. lol

a 6 bulb unit would be fine, you SPS would need to be high in the tank, lps would be fine in all levels from my experience. My 120 is 24 inches tall and my coral are all doing well under 6 bulbs currently, adding 2 more when i get off my butt lol.

you cant go wrong with this unit no matter the number of bulbs. I talked my cousin into spending the cash on the 8 bulb and it is bright lol. in all honesty, a little bright then mine with those two extra bulbs, and his Acropora and other easy keep sps are growing at a pretty quick rate.

Yeah, i kinda gave him this look when he said that... lol.

Now the biggest problem would be space... this thing will take all the room in my canopy. can i just bolt it to the lid so it comes up every time i need to do something? then I would tons of room.

the 8 bulb hangs over my 75 by about an inch or so on each side.. so no way would it fit in the canopy..

as i had said in those PM's.. bolting it to the roof could work just be sure toy spread out the weight a bit

Yeah, i'm going to go with the 6 bulb one.
