Thinking about upgrading

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your best option, if you are real. Is that you keep only 1 oscar and get a 55g tank for him, I know its not Ideal but its a lot less cruel.

Why spend all of that money getting new tanks every couple of months, instead of just getting a very large tank one time? I don't get it???

I love fish, plan and simple. The oscar are the first fish that I have had in about 10 years and I really wanna get back intothe hobby of fish. So buy the time that I get to the 'big tank' (240 gallons im guessing by what the comments are telling me) then I would have about 5-6 tank just sitting around. Time to add new fish to the collection. Basically I would have more tanks in the longer run and I would be able to put the fish in the tanks and go from there.

Okay I dont want anybody thinking I dont wanna care for the fish that I have and that i am not an ******* or anything, but if i did get rid of the 3 others and just went with the 1 in a 55 gallon, is that way too big for a 4 inch oscar. I mean the 10 gallon tank looks a little small and Im not lieing about that. but 1 oscar in a 55 gallon tank would look so small.

Can I put the 4 in the 55 gallon until they are about 6 inches, then move them to another tank?

I mean you no offense, really, I don't. But that does not make any sense to me, to keep moving the oscars to new tanks every two months, so you can have many tanks. I'd just buy a big tank for them now and get it over with. If you have money to keep buying new tanks every two months, then you can still buy your new tanks and add whatever fish you'd like, instead of moving the oscars every two months to new tanks, stressing them out.

But hey... your fish. Do it your way, man. You asking for advice? Mine is, get the big tank now and get it over with. You prefer to do it your way? Cool... do it your way. But if you love fish, plain and simple, than it seems to me you'd want to get the oscars to their permanent home sooner, rather than changing them every two months.

My two cents.

My opinion, a 55 gallon is too small for a lone oscar. But people do it, and seem to do it successfully, I guess. I honestly wouldn't keep one in anything less than a 90 gallon by itself. But that's me.

yes 50g is slightly on the small side but I would call it bare minimum, if you can afford a 75g then your Oscar would be perfectly fine in there with a couple other small fish.
If you love oscars then surely you would rather have one happy one then 4 unhappy?

ok i do thank you for your input on the questions. But what would be the smallest tank that I can get right now for the 4 oscars and maybe in a year upgrade again to a larger tank?

Oscars grow very fast, man. I mean, if you are talking a year before you upgrade, I'd still say like a 125 if you are going to keep all 4. You are going to be surprised at how fast this fish can and will grow, so long as you are feeding them well.

In a year your Oscars will be 12". They grow like weeds ! You really do not have long to upgrade.
