Ok guys, I was on lunch today cruising around and saw a copperhead on the road, just chillin. Then it hit me, why dont i have a snake? I have the room to build a nice set up. So i bought a couple books on boas and pythons. So i guess my real question here is what to keep. Whats an easy species for a noob like me? :D I have a few years of experience with Tarantulas and Herps. So im not completely lost. So here are my questions...

  • Easy species, either boa or python
  • An awesome set up (show me some pics) dont tell me to google. i want to see yours

man Im looking into blood pythons right now but they are not always very docile, take a little work unless your lucky. For someone wanting a great size snake that tames good and somewhat seems to enjoy being out and held I would look no further than a red tailed boa,and you got lots of morphs to chose from if your into that.Peruvians are beautiful but higher price, surinams also,Ive just got a columbian but she is very nice looking. They always feed good,I dont see any reason not to go for that.Columbians can be found at a great price, some of the morphs are even very affordable now.Albinos are awesome. But yeah,I love my columbian.SHes just in a glass tank right now,Im getting ready to try and build a 5 stack wooden settup for several snakes so she will move to something like that. What I recomend is to go to kingsnake .com and go to classifieds for boas, then for pythons, look through all those and then you know you covered your bases,if you find one you like, just ask us about it.4 new.JPG

I had them, the humidity and temps are alot more important to keep correct than other snakes that are more tolerable. They realy heavy on their heat pits to sense things around them so they are a bit head shy and can mistake your hand real quik for a cheeseburger.Mine would sometimes go off feed for long periods and make me nuts.Their teeth are much longer and I think curved back for catching birds, bats or whatever is fluffin around in them trees. So you dont really want a bite and pull from a large one.I handled mine and never got bit,but they were always head shy and I didnt ever let my finger wiggle in front of its head like a baby kitten.Im not saying you cant do it,if your already into herps then you know how to work a tanks environment I would hope, just dont really think it should be a first, def not one you should just feel like you can bail for a week and not worrie, they need misting and such you know.Just my 2 cents

Yeah, i was just wondering, i think they are crazy gorgeous. Basically i want to do a bio type setup, with branches and a small pond within the tank. The set up will be at least 5' tall and 3' wide. So i def. want a arboreal either or. Or if its possible both, 2 small species.

youll get flamed for keeping two in a viv together, however gtp would be good for that, amazon tree boas,I think some carpet pythons spend more time climbing.Make sure you get captive bread. Most of the climbers are a little more apt to strike wildly because of the enhanced senses. You could get a little spider monkey to put in their with it.

HELL YEAH SPIDER MONKEY  I wish. So those are good starters for me? besides the GTP?

damn dude you sittin next to the computer all day or what, quickest responder I ever saw lol.I know carpets make good pets, not so much the amazon tree boas.I mean really man if its just going to be display then atb or gtp are fine since youve done other herps, but I would really find something that you can handle regularly too,are you afraid of getting bit,I just think that an amazon tree bo would be better to try first because of the price compared to gtp.Would someone who hase carpet pythons freakin chime in,are they not kind of arboreal?I just think if thats the look your going for man I would go with those,if kerry king from slayer breeds them then they gotta be fun to have right.

what the hell, you get all excited about getting a snake you gotta put the grim reaper in your av,not the best lucky charm lmao.

I'm playing guitar, lol. So im on some tab sites aswell.

But I'm not scared of getting bit. And i just realized i put this in the wrong section. I want to be able to take them out of the viv every now and then. Its gets hot as hell here in the summer so I'd like to be able to take it (them) out for some good photo shoots.
