Would you feel the same if this was in your backyard? Snake attacks(pythons) are a factor here in Florida, they are up there with gator attacks, and most are peoples pet's that get loose in the house. I don't want to see pets released. It is the owners who buy them and don't have the means to house them when mature. Plus these reptiles are far from extinction and are preying on bird's here and other wild life that are on the brink of extention. As far as the underground sales, that will and is happening reguardless.

Just my opinion.

Check out this pic from the Everglades.
This ended in a draw but the python had the gator all the way in him.

what about all of the exotic fish that are in FL? would you want them to outright ban your oscar or any other exotic fish? NO!

the way I look at it, I keep all sorts of animals as a means to make me happy therefore banning this is an infringement on my pursuit of happiness and will not b tolerated. I am all for a reasonable permitting system but if they can't enforce what limitations they have now, how can they expect to enforce more that are even more strict? I don't understand....

What I dont understand is people who are not even into reptiles posting on this thread.

which is why to try and put things into perspective, they should imagine some of their fish being banned. There ARE responsible keepers out there, I have kept venomous for years and you dont hear about my eyelash vipers running rampant in FL... these animals are just not regulated like they should be. All of the proper ordinance is in place, people just do not enforce or follow it.

I guess my opinions are not welcome. I was commenting on the subject at hand and should have known better then to get into something so political.
As far as not being into reptiles, that is your opinion and why would you asume that without asking?

I also mentioned all aspects and added the news clip when called out.

Sorry. I will go away.

I agree on all counts Snakeguy, and as we know there are fish that Floridians are'nt allowed to have. What's to stop them from adding a few more to that list? This is kind of like a proposal by the mayor of my cash strapped city.He wants to pin a sales tax on soda,it along with all food is not subject to sales tax in our city and state. If he is allowed to get away with this then what's next?

ok so read that article and that is horrible that, that little girl was killed but IMO its the man that should be brought up on endangering a child and neglect. He obviously wasn't housing the snake properly if it kept on getting out and it said something about him putting a quilt over the tank, how the hell is a quilt going to keep any snake never the less a python big enough to kill a child in its tank. and if the python was that big than it was too big to be kept in a tank in the first place unless he had like a 600g tank which i doubt because it said the police carried out the tank and they wouldn't be able to do that so easily with a huge tank. it also said that they found drugs in the house as well so obviously this was some idiot who shouldn't have had the snake or custody of his child in the first place and put his kid in danger, and like its been said all over ban is not the answer it just needs to be more regulated and enforced. responsible owners wont mind going through a hoop or two when they know they can properly care for the animal and its not an impulse buy, and yes this affects the fish people as well, (i am a fish and a reptile person) there is already legislation talking about banning all exotics, rep and fish unless they are specifically on a list which they can only be added to pending approval (can anyone say "hello HR669"). yeah that sounds to me like its going to be another super efficient government program, (last sentence is dripping with sarcasm FYI) so hopefully these legislators see the light and stay away from doing barely anything to jumping to a full on ban, i mean thats like going straight from trying a cigarette as a kid to the next day being a full on meth addict its ridiculous to make such a huge jump in the wrong direction when there are so many other things that they can put into effect that would be so much better for everyone

You spoke earlier of ruffling feathers but now you seem to be a little ruffled. No one said that your opinions are not welcome here but we can't have a discussion if opinions can't be countered or answered, thats what this whole thing is supposed to be about.Did you assume that I was referring to you with my reptile keeping comment?

that blows
