My tire track eel is in a tank that has a hang on filter on it. Well, I never really see him much only at night, so I figured he must have buried himself. However, one day I was changing filter cartridges and he was swimming around in there! I thought oh that must have been an accident. But then later that night I checkd again and he was in there again. He can get in and out, ive now seen him do both, but is this bad? because i dont really now wat to do about this.

Sounds like he likes the apartment you provided him, sounds normal for eel like fish to me.

Okay well guys, about a half hour ago I was watching my eel come out of the filter for food and the guy had a big gash in his head. Unless a bichir, knife fish, or gar can do that to a fish, it think he cut his head on one of the dividers that separate media trays. So I took the run-wheel for my hamster and made it into a cage to just block up the hole. I dont mean to sound like a jerk but idc how much he likes it up there i dont like seeing him get beat up. its like if you had a kid "I dont care how fun that spike bed is Johnny it can hurt you!"

Climbing up into a HOB filter is normal eel behavior. Sounds like you resolved a situation that might be harmful to your eel. It's amazing how they can wiggle and get inside of the smallest space.

My TT use to do the same thing.. until he got to big to fit under the bio-wheel on his tank. I was fishing him out fairly regularly. Good call on blocking him. Usually they do this when they are not happy with their hide spots available in a tank. On the flip side my fire eels have never even peered at their HOB in such a fashion. Wouldn't hurt to add some driftwood or pvc for him to hide in.

both TT's ive had do this non stop, i had to fish em out 2-3 times a day, finally i took window screen material and set the hob's on top of it. the tank is 100% sealed like fort knox.

haha yea i put a lot more places that were dark and long. But I think he figured out it was bad or that its just blocked cause I havent seen him go in there yet. And also I almost sawed open the filter because he swam up were the sucky tube and the filter unite (very scientific I know). He popped out right as I was coming back with tools. But he is know SERIOUSLY stressed out. He is xtremely dark and isnt eating much, which is weird because he was a pig.
