i agree with you Em.... but this is only going to turn into a flame war and you know it.... it wrong and plain stupid with lack of respect but welcome to this world and there is absolutly nothing that can stop it unfortunatly

It is a waste of a beautiful shark. It is a shame that people do this, but it is a part of the world. I do not agree with killing of game animals for trophies. I think it is a waste. If the person is going to eat the animal, it is a different story.

Everyone please stay on topic, no more derailments. Productive arguments are fine.

No it doesnt need to turn into any type of flame war. Like I said before, my goal is not to tear her down or "flame" her personally, that won't achieve anything but unecessary hostility. But at the same time I cannot sit quietly and turn the other cheek when something like this is so proudly displayed by one of our own. Do I know who personally shot the shark, no, nor do I know if this was a one time deal or somthing they routinely participate in, however, the fact that she posed with the shark, and made the comment of "an hour and 40 minutes and this is all I got" - directly implies she was the one responsible, so therefore she is the one I direct my dissapointment towards.

And though this may never be stopped in whole, there are several foundations, private groups and facilities who work tirelessly to attack head-on these reckless endevors. There is no sense in killing a shark for a photograph - stand by it and take the damn picture and then release it, and if you are too scared to stand by it alive, and feel the need to kill it - then maybe you shouldnt be in that sport, and certainly not striking the "muscle" pose. If you want to mount the animal, take a few photographs, typically all they will ask for is a frontal, a side view (one of each side), a rear view, and sometimes a belly shot, as well as any close-ups of scar patterns or unique markings you want included on the mount. You can take all these while the animal is still living, and it would only take you a few minutes at most, and then release it. There is no need for waste like this, and no need for the use of guns, thats not fishing.

Some may think that I am nothing more than "shark crazy" and want to catch all the bad guys. LOL thats not it at all, and there is no way to do that. But I do love sharks. I have based my life and career on interacting with them, studying them, breeding and raising them, as well as trying to preserve them and educate the general public, dispelling old myths and urging conservation - You can ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you the same, and Yes I will have my opinions, as will anyone else who does what I do - either privately or professionally. Though I am upset at her for what she did, that doesnt mean she is a bad person, as I am sure she is not, nor does it mean that I have my radar on her, LOL, as I do not. Its simply that this is not acceptable, and cannot and should not go ignored as this is a real issue we face every day, and the sharks are the ones which suffer.

Just because you can eat an animal, does not give you the right to kill it. I am certainly no bunny hugger, but sharks are not typical human cuisine. Thresher sharks are among the most edible of sharks, and their populations are now in decline. I can eat a monkey, should I kill it? All in all, killing an animal for sport is always sad, and the individual involved should be ashamed. I shark fish every year and have some spectacular photographs and video, and not once did we kill a shark.

correct me if i am wrong....

the main problem is that the shark was killed for no reason. ( a mount is no reason in my book)

meaning that if it was a mako and made great mako steaks...the fact that it was killed with a bang stick would not be a problem.

in the arguement about i could eat a monkey, one real theory on how HIV and AIDS passed to man it from eatting not fully cooked monkey... people have to realized because we can is not an answer...
