i have a pair in a 10 gallon the spawned like 3 times but i only had fry hatch once. A few days ago the male beat up and killed the female :(

yea convicts get to be a pretty decent size. Here is a pic of mine

my convicts bred many times in a 10 gallon. Once the male bit the females tail almost completely off after breeding (it grew back seemingly fine). needless to say, the two are now loving it in my 55 and making life exciting for my firemouth. man they breed like crazy, ive almost had enough (no more females for me).

no i read that in the wild they need a 3ft wide territory so a 29 gallon would be great thats wut ive had mine in and theyve spanwed mayb more than 10 times all of them have hatched and the parents are only 1 year old

I would never attempt a 10g tank for spawning convicts, even when small they are far too aggresive. Not only that, but once you factor in the growing fry you are going to need a lot of space. I have done it in a 20g but ideally something between 29 and 55g is best.

Convicts are a great species, I agree with the thread author. They have great personalitys and are very interesting, convicts were one of the first fish I ever owned and one of the fish I will probably own throughout my life no matter how deep in the hobby i get.

Convicts are like aqua-rabbits. All they do is make little convicts. When I was little I had a breeding pair of cons in a 55 gal. It was really fun to watch.
