but seriously what i mean is that sometime when they by the fish, they go, "check out my new silver!!!, Its in a 55 grow out tank, i dont have a bigger tank for him at the moment, but i plan on getting a biger tank, and sometimes that bigger tank is usually a 125,oooooooooor they sell it or jsut get rid of it completely.......

Then let them sell or give it to somebody that could accomodate a monster better. I respect your love for animals Del , but sometimes we have to be practical.
i definetly know what you mean. i dont know if anyone has been shopping at wallmart for fish but i took my niece for her birthday present and i saw a pacu in a very small bowl that was made for betas. it was the worst thing ive ever seen. i of course bought the pacu, it was pretty big probably about 8 and it was 4.99. but i cant stand when people dont know how to take care of their fish and leave fish in tanks that cant let them move at all
IMO what you are saying has two sides to it. I would rather see someone with good intentions buy a large fish and give them proper care and water quality then a proper size tank.
Like you for example, your aro isn't in the best size of a tank, but your aro is one of the nicest ones on here. It is tanken very good care of, given a proper diet, and good water quality. I would rather see this happen to most fish vs someone haveing the money and space for a huge tank and not knowing how to properly take care of the fish.
I myself jumped into motoro rays, without thinking of the future. There is no way I would be able to take rays of that size somewhere with me after high school. I only had a 90gl for two 8in rays, but I did the reasearch, and properly took care of them and got them to grow to 12 and 13in in only 3 months and got them to spawn. Someone else could have bought them with a huge tank vs me, but if they had no info on rays, they might not be alive today. But I made sure that their new owner had experience and an adaquite tank for them.
As far as grow out tanks go, my aro went from a 20gl to a 55gl to a 90gl and when it is finished being made, he will be in a 300gl.

I have an Arrow in a grow out tank and Nobody can tell me its not a good idea because he will die in other tanks. I keep CA/SA cichlids that are bigger than him!
DeL is absolutly right!! I don't think people consider the time and dedication it takes to keep these fish and actually have them prosper. Like DeL I have seen alot if aro's that are 12"+ stuffed in 55's latley on this site. Then the poster says I am planning on getting a bigger tank soon>> WTF before or after you stunt the damn thing? I have +$2000.00 in my 220 and I planned it from day one. Actually had most of it bought when I bought my first 4" aro. most people can't come up with that kind of cash over night. I know some of the fish freaks here think aro's need a 3' tank but I don't I feel my aro will be very comfortable for A LONG time. Like all the aro owners I plan to upgrade, but will it actually happen? I have no idea. Moral of this story? DON"T BUY IT UNTIL YOU CAN HOUSE IT!!

nobody is saying you can't house your aro in a grow out tank until it's big enough to survive with large tankmates.. Just don't buy it until you have it's final home.. It's like buying a colt(horse) and keeping it in you 12'x12' back yard, planning on buying a pasture to keep it in>
another thing most people taht buy a 180+ gallon tank take fishkeeping very seriously, When you drop that kind of cash you kind of have to!!
