its a Shiba Inu pup! nah hes my mates but too kool and the only small dog breed id personally think of owning they have personality's too kool for skool!
i have never heard of this breed... i will look it up ... personality is written all over his face..lol

I love Shiba Inus they are one of the few small breeds I actually like. They are so full of spunk it's hilarious.

As far as the dumbest dog list goes I don't get why beagles are on there. It's not that they are stupid, but that they are very stubborn. Trying to teach mine to ignore his nose when he was little was very hard but he will listen and do whatever I want him to do, except stay off the counters. He actually learned how to move the chair to the counter then jump up that way.

Very cute pup, to bad they grow into their skin and loose most of the wrinkles as adults. I have a shar pei / boxer mix great dog but hates grass and water, it will even lick his legs dry after drinking. As far as cuddling with it thats a no as their fur is very short and course, I read that shar pei translates to sand dog in chinese do to the fact its fur is like sand.

wow never knew any of this about them... so they are that rough???scratch your skin rough? i need to cuddle so i quess that breed isn't for me.. :grinno:

Liz Shiba Inu's are the lil cousin of Akita Inu. One of the six native Japanese breeds they pretty much think they are full sized akita's, indeed the look just like a miniature Akita and conduct themselves in a similar fashioned even taking on a equal aged 3 times the size akita's or other big dogs is not even hesitated about. they are fearless little champions and cute as hell.

Not only is the fur course its very short, like 1/4" to 1/2" max. Its almost like a scrub brush. I'm sure it varies some from dog to dog though. The fur on my dogs snout is less than a 1/16" long its like fuzz almost, I can only speak of my dog though and its a mix with boxer and our boxer is very soft to the touch so he must get it from the shar pei.

do you have a pic of your dog.. i would love to see one.

yep.. if i was ever tempted to have smaller dogs, the shiba inu would be it. i'm a big fan of Japanese dogs, especially the ones that have been adopted as Japanese national treasures.

http://japanesedogs.bulldoginformation.com/hokkaido-ainu-inu.html this is the one that is the most interesting to me.. but they must don't seem to be available in the US..

That study was done based on trainability, not intelligence. Obviously there is some correlation between the two, border collie was the most "intelligent" breed according to that study, and there is no doubt they are very smart dogs, but what it really means is they can quickly learn words/commands.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intelligence_of_Dogs

ps. Beagle came in at 74, our beagle/fox terrier cross is certainly every bit as intelligent as our hungarian viszla (ranked 25th by that study)....
