Ive always cycled my tanks this way. Im not new to the hobby. Ive only had fish deathers from power outages. I appreciate your advice. But as others have said we all do things alittle difrent.

Wow, this thread is something else! I believe the OP needs to learn a little more about the nitrogen cycle and how to keep bb alive. I believe others should be a little easier on the OP. I have to agree with mshill that there are other ways than a fishless cycle, and I would be willing to bet that the majority of people on here preach the fishless method do so just to avoid getting flamed. If water levels are kept in check the fish will live and be fine.

To the OP, were the filters established when you put them on your tank? If so, 2 weeks without any waste source is a long time and the majority of your bb would've died off. Then to put a lungfish in would more than likely have caused a spike in ammonia.

no the filters werent cycled

this is to the chick so your trying to tell me my tank has worse watter then a stagnant mudhole with cape buffalo and crocs wadeing pooping in it drying up in the african desert. and its gonna kill my friends lungfish? is that realy what u were telling me

I just hope you find that juruense long after your system has matured as it will not be as tolerant as that lungfish of such conditions.

why do u think im useing a lungfish and not a jurense? would u have felt beter if i used a goldfish? its still a fish a liveing thing

I wish I had a lungfish to cycle a tank with, not that I would've done this of course. I prefer the lazy shrimp method. Seeding the aquarium with old media goes a long way as well.

Do you have a liquid water testing kit? I did my best to read though everything here but I wasn't thorough, I skimmed.

i had taken watter sample to the fish store and had it tested. prior to puting the fish in it. and agin the fish had ben kept in a tank with no filter at all
