Add a little salt and bump up the heat. He will be fine. Everyone here gave you accurate advice. Good job on the removal. Glad you didn't loose your Cichla.

looks like you fed him a sunfish and chances are those spines are stuck in there pretty good. next time take the spines off

To me if you were that upset/concerned I don't think I'd allow there to be a next time, if it eats frozen then I'd stick with that personally...
