I picked up this decently large arrowhead puffer about a year and a half ago he was my third puffer I’ve ever owned he was purchased at just about 5 1/2 inches so just about full grown I payed $120 for him at a local exotic fish shop they had posted him on Facebook the day he came in and I went right up there and got him I had been looking for one for months I thought I was gonna have to order one online but I got lucky !
I was told he was wild caught so for the first two months I had him he puffed up constantly my only guess is that he was puffing at his own reflection in the glass I guess he wasn’t used to seeing himself thinking it was another puffer in competition for territory lol

He really is an awesome fish to keep he enjoys frozen foods now I’ve heard these are notoriously hard to get unfrozen food but as of about two months ago, he often enjoys frozen shrimp, and krill and the occasional crayfish and half shelled clams for beak filing if anyone else has one of these awesome fish feel free to share pics of yours !!

It looks pretty sick might be one of my favorite spices of puffer's yet!
They are definitely neat they are much more available I’ve always kept fish but only been really serious about it for about 8years inform when I’ve heard 10 to 12 years ago arrowhead puffers were quite pricey. I’ve seen old YouTube videos of them priced at $250 plus they’re definitely cheaper these days. I never see people keeping them other than online they definitely make a good beginner puffer in my opinion just need to be fed well and have regular scheduled water changes to maintain quality mine has always been very hearty, I’ve kept six species of freshwater puffers right now I just have Mbu , fahaka , and arrowhead However, the Mekong hairy puffer did not go so well for me. I got him from predatory fins he came in. Awesome they always have the highest quality of fish after about a year of keeping him he ended up dying I had him in a 40 gallon breeder tank with a divider down the middle separating him from my arrowhead puffer at one time I did water changes as normal. Came home four hours later and he was the only fish that was dead in the whole room. The arrowhead puffer that was in the same water as him was just fine my guess is pipes were flushed with chloramine 👎👎

Got my arrowhead at an auction he was mislabeled as a different species. He has quickly become a favorite in the house though! Good looking one you have there!

Thanks man , yeah I feel like they’re not talked about enough in the hobby. They don’t get super large. They can live happily in a 40 gal tank or even smaller when juvenile and are awesome to feed as well mine goes nuts over food have you ever been able to get yours on frozen food? It took mine a very, very long time to accept frozen food over a year.

Believe it or not he's eating pellets and shrimp. I can actually hear the pellets snap when he bites them. He's been like that since we got him. They really like to burrow in the substrate too. That's why I changed to a sand.

Dang, that’s awesome. I’ve never seen them eat pellets. I didn’t know this when I got my puffer, but most people have told me they’re notorious for not wanting anything but meaty or live foods mine was wild, caught as an adult though so that may be why it took a year for mine to eat frozen , do you have any pics of yours?
