This spring's Characin experiment........

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did your Vs and G grow at about the same rate or did you find the Vs growing faster? Or is it just whoever is dominant grows fastest? My G sure seems to eat more then my Ts so I'm kind of confused, but there's no question as to who is growing quickest here......
My V's grew slower than the G. I knew that before I got them so I started with larger Vs and added the G later. The G has surpassed the Vs by about 3 inches now.

Hey, can you elaborate on ATF growth rates compared to the Armatus's since they've all been housed together? I'm assuming that the Armatus slow down after a foot. Once they're a foot is it slowed enough for the ATF to keep up? My Armatus seem to be growing really slow on pellets but am afraid once they're exposed to lots of food (lots of rays in this tank) they'll take off again and end up unable to house with the ATF.......

Not sure I'm aware of anyone else housing Armatus and ATF together......

I have two ATFs with 3 Armatus together. I didn't acquire the Armies until the ATFs were about 9 inches. I've only had the Armies for about a year and they've caught up and are on the way past the ATFs. They were 2 inches when I got them. I'm not too concerned because the ATFs are now 15 inches and 12 inches. So for the Armies to swallow them they would need to be a lot bigger.

Charcins are the best! - big open water fish with no real territorial issues

Not territorial? lol. You should come clean this tank....... I've never seen aggression displayed like the Aimara does when I have to get in this tank for anything. Goes from mellow to kill in the removal of a lid.

So this could actually work...... The Ts might be a little small (8-9") now, but at least I can try them with this V...... Just need a few more inches on the Armatus before I feel they shouldn't be ray food.

Thank you for the info Sashi.....

I could've stated that better but kinda thought you'd understand what I meant - I don't consider Wolves to be open water fish however I do know exactly what your sayin'. I had a hoopla mala for several years that would attack the water change hose weekly. I was more referring to the years of success your havin' and what I've been havin' with odes, brycon, paryas, tigers, etc... cohabing. I won't say it's 100% peaceful as theirs shanks, rips, and tail chuncks but no merciless onslaught like I've seen with my dats, chiclids. or even my cute lil' reef fish.

Well, it's been a month. Only damage I've witnessed is the Vatf's face from smashing into the top of the tank on a regular basis.

Have not seen one nipped fin or a single missing scale on any of the Odoe. Robert's flawless. Both wolves are doing well.

Pretty happy with the outcome. Watching these guys interact with each other never gets boring. Robert still concerns me a bit. He's had an attitude and has been swimming faster ever since the big "peacekeepers" left..... Even see him running Lucy every once in a while but then she realizes what's going on and ends it.

Next I'll be removing the Masheer and see if that upsets the balance, as they'll be needed when combining Tigers in a different tank.

Very glad it is working well ... i'm always nervous when i get home from work and turn the lights on not knowing what kind of damage i might find ... that wolf looks huge!!!!

That's Lucy the Lacerdae. She's definitely big (sold as a 20"er) and loves to be first to eat. Can be kind of scary at feeding time.....

I can honestly say Wolves have quickly become my favorite fish. They seem so much better suited to our glass boxes then the open water guys. Pair that with their lovable begging personality and you have such a cute combination, but when the food hits the water that all changes. The explosive power is way beyond any fish I've ever kept......
