This was surprising ....I bought pellegrini as pellegrini

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will be setting up a 40 gallon breeder I got last year from Petco very soon for the almost 200 EBA fry . I have been losing a couple daily but that's expected.
More hide spaces, more daphnia and brine shrimp and more Milk-jug WCs - just scoop a few gallons out everyday w/ milkjug with the top cut off above the handle - it doesn't disrupt and disturb, but it will keep the water quality solid.

frozen Daphnia are the best choice for wigglers that have been removed before the free-swimming stage, and crush high-protein flakes into a fine powder everyday.

The day before will take a day to sink but everytime you crush more, they will be eating the days crushed flakes from before. or take a hammer or rolling pin to some pellets in an envelope.

Don't forget veggies in a blender with some water.....load oral syringe, FIRE!!!

Balzanii is apparently so weird that previous cichlid keeping experience appears to count for SO little when keeping these things. I saw pix of a pair and both have male-humps.....you cant even tell them apart, but other literature I read says the females don't GET a hump at all. Now we're doing 50-60F water temps? ....and they don't seem to come to the surface to feed either, all 3 Geos in that tank wait for pellets and food that sinks and haven't learned by watching the EBJDs or the dithers. Shoot, I even have CATFISH in that tank that surface-feed, but not Geos/Gymnos

I think the Steindachneri were so gluttonous they would surface for food lol.

My Altifrons in my other tank learned from the big boys, but not the ones in the planted . IDK why they won't "get trained". U got any ideas? I feed frozen shrimp, brine shrimp, squid, clams, bloodworms, dried krill, Hikari Bio-gold+, Omega One and TetraMin color flakes, plus minced romaine, red/green leaf lettuce/mixed greens, peas, lima beans, etc. and the occasional fish fillet. About to try live crickets and earthworms

Yes it hit or miss with some Geos my Redhead Tapojos would only sift through sand for food.

order? Petco and Petsmart have them 24/7, so do most Ma-and-Pa LFSs.

red-HEAD and red-HUMP are different, right?

That's awesome how often does that happen ?! I hope you can get them to breed that would be amazing. If you don't mind how much are real pellegrini running for nowadays
