Through out my brothers school career, he has always been enrolled in a private catholic school. Lately my dads side of the family disagrees with my parents enrolling him into private school. My uncles and aunts said they dont understand why my parents are dishing out thousands of dollars on private schools when they can save that money for college. What confuses me is that my dads side is very well educated and wants everyone to go to a good school, but yet they disagree with my parents enrolling my brother into a private school.

How do you feel about private schools? Do you agree with my dads side?

If the kid shows serious potential to be a doctor I can see sending them to a fancy school but most of the time it makes more sense to use the tuition money to buy a house in a better school district.

My personal view is that I would love to send all my children to a private school (catholic) just to be able for them to get the more one-on-one time that the school I have in mind provides as well as the religious aspect being brought into their daily curriculum. I'm not saying that it is any better than public school, it is just want I would prefer. I unfortunately do not have the funds to cover tuition for four boys.

It really depends on a few factors.

Does this student have learning issues?

Is the public school system in the area overcrowded/underfunded?

Will this student have a better chance at a college scholarship if they attend a private school?

I went to public school. My parents never had thousands of dollars to spare on school. I think I have learned a lot through public school. My perception of private school is they all turn into punks who always think they are better than the average joe. But that's just me. Wasted money imo.

^exactly like he said. If the school is considered better and more knowledgable then the public school then it can give you a boost when looking for colleges but if it's considered the same as the public school but catholic then there's really no reason to make the switch.

It is one of the best higher education private catholic school in the area. We also live in the best district in our city with great schools, but my parents want the best for him.

Having my kids in a private elementary school was the worst experience of my life. My mother was a teacher till she passed away so I believe that in the public system there are some very excellent teachers. Though the public system certainly seems geared the wrong way IMHO.

I will say I have my high school age children in a private high school and it rocks.

With the elementary school, their criteria for hiring teachers really seemed lacking in credentials for the teaching staff which attributed to a huge deal to them having some $%#@! up people on their staff who had no idea on how to teach. They did however have the God Complex thing down perfect and their conduct showed it.

The elementary is Regina Christian School. http://www.reginachristianschool.org/ The sickest thing about this school is how they violate their motto by their conduct.

The high school is Luther College http://www.luthercollege.edu/ This is however a really great educational institution.

Just goes to show bad apples do not spoil the batch.
