Thoughts about private school

Having my kids in a private elementary school was the worst experience of my life. My mother was a teacher till she passed away so I believe that in the public system there are some very excellent teachers. Though the public system certainly seems geared the wrong way IMHO.

I will say I have my high school age children in a private high school and it rocks.

With the elementary school, their criteria for hiring teachers really seemed lacking in credentials for the teaching staff which attributed to a huge deal to them having some $%#@! up people on their staff who had no idea on how to teach. They did however have the God Complex thing down perfect and their conduct showed it.

The elementary is Regina Christian School. http://www.reginachristianschool.org/ The sickest thing about this school is how they violate their motto by their conduct.

The high school is Luther College http://www.luthercollege.edu/ This is however a really great educational institution.

Just goes to show bad apples do not spoil the batch.

It really depends on the school imo. As the person above me pointed out some private schools are in poor shape while some public schools are also.

I don't think you can truly generalize that one is better than the other in any way. It depends on the specific school(s) that are being compared

I personally went to private school, Jesuit High School, and feel it was a good experience. The first year to two years of the University of South Florida were little more than reviewing what I had already done in high school and made the process of familiarizing myself with USF much easier and more comfortable.

As for if my kids, whenever I have some, will go to private or public - again, it depends on the area and the reputation that the schools have.

stop wasting your money on school period. graduate k-8= free. graduate 12-14 or drop out= free. college not free= scam.

dont spend money on stupid education. its a stupid scam.

The teachers that I had in public school were wasted on most of the other students. With that in mind, though, I am quite well aware that our schools were quite good. That is definitely NOT the case everywhere. With the extra info the OP gave -- ie, the family /already/ lives in an area known to have good public schools -- I feel like the money is wasted in this case.

If you are choosing a degree in a field that requires a grad school level education, like, I dunno, research microbiology lab coordinator, then it's justified. But I agree that going to college for the sake of going to college can be a big waste of time and money. It has been pounded into our heads since day one that it is necessary to do in order to succeed. That attitude vastly undervalues military and skilled trade occupations and careers, and there is an entire for-profit college industry that exists to scam money out of both the government AND students.

I went to a private school look how well I turned out......... lol............ maybe it bagged me the rich husband

From my experience, the curriculum in a private school seems much better and the expectations for students success is higher because of a much lighter load on the teachers(24 students vs. the 35 students in a public school). I think that alone is worth it. On the other hand, there are a lot of snobby arrogant kids but not more than any punks in the public school system.
2 of my 3 kids are in private school and my 3rd will be next year. Yeah it costs an arm and a leg but IMHO it's well worth it in the long run--especially because the public schools in our area are trash.

In my case, private schools are much much better then public schools in my area. The public schools are seriously horrible.

The school doesn't make the man, rather his attitude and willingness to learn and grow. When parents only have money to offer they will give the best just so they feel better.
