Very nice Dempsey there. Are you totally sold on changing to another cichlid? Why not keep the pike and get something to go with him? As long as whatever you get is too big for him to eat you have a wide range to choose from. I have some amazing barbs that would fit in your tank. Clown, Mascara and Arulius barbs to name a few. All max out at around five inches and are peaceful as well as beautiful.
If you want to get a pet type fish you could get an electric blue Acara and still keep the pike. They wont outgrow your tank and are also peaceful.
