Thoughts????

Just wanted to get some opinions on something. My daughter purchased a 4"-5" BGK 1 1/2 weeks ago. Now this LFS is pretty good on keeping his tanks pretty prestine. The fish was eating when she got it and saw it eat. We took our time acclimated the fish. She even bought one of those BGK houses. The BGK always stayed vertical and would not eat anything( bloodworms,brine shrimp,flake or guppies ), we lost it Sat morning. Now with this fish being one of those relying on its electrical impulse thing a ma bobs to find its way, food whatever- DOES ANYBODY THINK THAT WITH ALL THIS NEW STUFF WITH YOUR COMPUTERS MEANING THE WIRELESS ROUTERS AND THINGS, THAT IT MESSES UP THE BGK SENCES SO IT JUST CAN NOT GET USED TO ITS SUROUNDINGS AND FIND FOOD???

I don't think that was the issue. But I could be wrong.
 
It just wasnt the same fish as it was at the LFS. Swimming around,eating total diferent fish.
What got me thinking of this is our friend has their dogs on an electric fence. They have the Verizon FIOS system as we do and about 3 times a week they have to turn off 1 or the other collars and reset it. They think its the FIOS thats the culprit. It just got me to thinking.
 
It was probably the difference in water or something. Did she triple check her ammonia, nitrites & nitrates? Knifes are pretty sensitive to water quality. I just got mine about a month ago, he's the same size as your daughter's was. His tank is right next to my computer. Mine finds the bloodworms every night right away, I think they use their sense of smell to find food, not electrical impulses.
 
sometimes it is just stress that does a fish in..or just because you saw it eat in the LFS does not mean that some disease was lurking and then the move rushed up the progress of sickness faster.. also unless you raised your own quarenteened guppies i would stay away from any feeder fish... lastly the water could be completely different.. if you do not have a test kit bring water sample to LFS, and let them test it..do you have any other fish in the tank... how long has the tank cycled? all could be a reason and yet it may not be any of the above.. but i doubt it was electrical ..next time if you get another.. use an eye dropper to shoot the blood worms into the front of fish's face.. once he gets settled in you won't have to cater so much.. but they are rather delicate in the beginning.
 
Knifefish can change their frequencies at will. If there was a disturbance, it would have changed before anything got serious.

So, I suspect water quality was the culprit. It could have also been uncomfortable eating.
 
he could be stressed, but what i could say is that most knife fish come out in the knight and like eating at knight
 
It could have been the water but havent had a problem with any other fish.2 tetras were bought at the same time so got a small amm spike but did WC to help that out. Tank has been running for a while. I was thawling(spelling) out frozen bloodworm in tank water and pouring it right over its head. Had to smell that. The only reason I got guppies was to see if it would eat them,no go. I guess it had to be an internal parisite and the move stessed it out enough to bring it out.

Like I said it was a thought.

if you had an ammonia spike in the tank then it means that you tank is not cycled properly and thats what killed the fish. they are sensitive fish and like clean water. water quality is the only reason you lost your fish.its not necessary that the other fishes in the tank also have to be sick for water to be bad. sorry for your loss
