Professional manner? MFK is an online forum.
Educated? I identified the fish, brought up the fact that they should be responsibly rehoused, and gave a quick explanation why.

It doesn't hurt to be direct sometimes either, especially when you see someone mixing fish from a genre that you love with aggressive centrals without even knowing what species they are.

That begs another question. You bought them from a shop - did you even ask what they were? I'm sure they would have known.
Yes I agree with you there.:grinno:

This site is all about helping as many people out as possible. But when you randomly buy fish without having any idea what they are and start randomly throwing in reptiles you should expect to get responses from people wanting to know what the heck you are thinking.

Advice:
Always research a fish on your own (do not trust what pet stores tell you) before you purchase any fish. Do not go to a store and buy a fish that you do not know anything about. How do you know the fish you buy are going to get along or if you can properly house/care for them if you do not even know what they are. If you always research the fish before buying it you will know if your current fish will be compatable with it and if you have a proper tank to house it. As fish keepers is it our responsibility to provide our fish with proper housing and compatably tankmates.

Yeah i know but.. Ain't it a little harsh on the guy? Weren't we like them when we first started the hobby. I know how he might have felt, i did the same thing before. And Most LFS won't tell you if the fish you bought will murder your aquarium pets.

Anyways, you have a point.

Cheers

The title of your thread says please ID? Why would you ask people to ID fish that you already know what they are

to make sure they were labeled rite and all that crap doesn't mean nothing just cuz something didint work for u does mean the same for everybody else.

example from wat i have heard on the site it that u can't keep multiple pikes together and ive been doing it for like 6 monthes now i say all that to say

im a visual person and i learn from my own mistakes better then u telling me something, i love and enjoy the opinions from everyone but at the end of the day im the only one that will have to worry about wats going on over here.So keep the good convo coming along with good info but dont tell me i shouldn't be collecting cichlids

Aren't you the guy who bought some little pikes, threw them in with your bigger pikes and was then surprised when your bigger pikes ate your new little ones?
Your money, true, no one's arguing that. Just don't be an idiot and don't put a fish in a situation that will result in injury or death that could have bee easily prevented with a small amount of logic and concern on your part.
Your yellow belly slider can get big and will in all likelihood come to see your new fish as food. I don't care what you've seen or heard to make you believe mixing them is safe, this is the risk you are willing to take. If he doesn't eat them outright he will try. I bet you'll be surprised then too. :shakehead
