Throw net.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've only ever used a siene net, we did it all the time at my uncles cabin on Mille Lacs Lake. Coolest catch was about 80 billion baby dogfish. Neat little buggers.

It would be great to keep a bowfin, but need a big tank!

I have ordered an old salt net, do they throw well?

Thanks

mine certainly do. It depends on how big it is, and how experienced you are. The small old salt 5' was my first cast net in the 7th gradee, and it worked just fine on the first day.

What if the substrate is really mucky? Does it still catch fish?

Face the facts, you will pull up mud and plants and all kinds of crap if the fish aren't in open, deep water. No big deal, you just dump the crap out and throw the net quickly in deeper water to clean it. Or use a hose, you lazy bastages.

For the seine guys, don't use one that's bigger than 4x4 with the broomsticks, or it wont work.

I read through 7 pages of post and I havent yet seen anyone speak about a minnow trap, would this not be the easiest of all? Two bucket cages with inverted cones on ether side place a lil bate for the minnows and place in water wait 10 - half hour and pull out a buch of feeders... seems easier then cast nets and drag nets, and you would have both hands free for beer and what ever else you want to do up at the lake.

I have one, but the problem is the fish have to swim into it, you can't go after the fish you want.
