I've never had luck with O's having more than one tankmate myself even with another O although I see them in the lfs together and know other people have more than one. A lot of fish have their own personalities though so a lot of times its hit or miss. I wouldn't quit yet. Just have a little patience it work out for you.

To you and the OP you best chance is to put one with fish who do not resemble the oscar at all

For instance one of my tanks has BIG oscar, polys, pleco, and a clown knife. No aggression at all ever. The oscar many times will not feel threatened or territorial by other less aggressive fish that are of an extremely different body type.
