Just a note to fellow outdoorsman. This wet spring must have the tick population jumped into overdrive. Had three of them on me from the trip the other day. Pulled one out of my side last night that bite into me pretty good. No rash or bulls eye mark so nothing to worry about but did make me bleed. I carry a "tick-tool" in my fishing gear and highly suggest others do the same, makes removing the whole tick easy so you don't break the head off in ya. So make sure to check yourself over well after a day of fishing to make sure you are tick free. They are nasty little buggers and the sooner you get them off ya the better.

Hate 'em!!!!
......and mosquitoes!!!
........and anything that stings me!

Hello; If I am to be out in places where ticks may be I tuck my pant legs into my socks. That way they have to crawl on the outside of my clothes a longer way to get to me.
It is also suggested to wear light colored clothes in tick season so they can be spotted easier.

Quite the read after doing overdue yardwork for much of the day.

I have a bad history with ticks. I(I was about 13) went into a field with my brother(around 1980) and came back covered in small(baby ticks). My dad sprayed me with bug spray. Then I jumped in the bath. I got lucky that none bit me. But about a year later a mature one bit me in my back. My parents burned it off...it hurt alot.

They are bad in my area, and most areas of Maine now. Can’t walk across the yard without getting at least one. Deer ticks and dog (or brown) ticks. I remember as a kid never seeing them. Every where now. Always pulling them off our dog.

This is what it looked like on Wednesday. After being okay for a couple days it then started to turn red and look infected. Not the bulls eye rash of lyme but still not good. It's looking much lighter today now. Running a course of Amoxilcillin just to be on the safe side.

Yikes!

Growing up our yard had lots of ticks. So I got use to checking for them.
Two bad experiences.
I had a tick bite in my ear. My mom had to use a tweezers to get it out. I was very freaked out and took a few days to go outside again.

I was also bit by a deer tick. No bullseye, but I did get general weakness and was sore for a good week after. Over the years I wondered if I had Lyme or not. I finally asked my dr to test me for it last year. No Lyme.

I have since gotten lazy about checking for ticks. Our farm has very few ticks. I see less then a handful a year. But our dog(adopted adult) tested positive for Lyme at the vet a couple years ago. I’m not convinced he caught it living with us, but the vet was. He only ever got bit by one tick here and it wasn’t even on long enough to start gorging with blood. It was a woodtick. And I always put preventive on the dogs. Still the vet said it was likely while we had him.
Thankfully after being treated he is Lyme free and never was to the point of showing symptoms.

Shortly we will have our guineas out and hopefully we won’t see ticks anymore period.
