Tig and jur cohabitation: what are realistic expectations?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wonder why the jur is staying on that driftwood and if it was not for the tig, would he be favoring the bottom (as is apparently the norm for these cats)?

Anyway, everyone would agree with you. It definitely helps - few large tanks offer more than one level for a catfish to settle on, so this appears no coincidence but the cause and effect thing.

As for the aggression as a function of age/size, it (almost?) always worsens with fish growing and sexually maturing. My point was that if they don't play nice when small, the problems would grow in pace with the fishes. But again, so few people have and report here on adult jurs and tigs and almost never on their combo.

We need more data points but are happy to have just yours for now :)

Excellent points. Would of loved to try this combo, maybe someday. The thought of having them both in one tank is freeking exciting!

I think having all that decor in the tank might help too
Not alot of decor one big piece of driftwood.(older pic)

The jur has perched on the driftwood long before the tig was added to the tank. It is my understanding perching is normal behavior for them not sitting on bottom like most cats. The only time he sits on bottom is during a water change.

SVT, I may have missed it, but what size is that tank?

Those fish look GREAT! So gonna try this :D

I kept a tig and Jur from 3-4" each up till 9-10". They chased a little but never any real damage. The real damage ocurred when my Leo killed my Tig.

An interesting tidbit. Hmm. Could it be that the driftwood spot has more of the current (and/or more of oxygen) the brachies love? That could actually reverse the order of best seats - DW first, bottom second - and make out the jur as if dominating the tig. When the mentioned sporadic chasing occurs, who runs away?

2nd shot? Why? The tig's is said to be 2' which leaves 3" in front of it and 3" behind it, minus the glass thickness on both sides. Looks quite plausible to me. No?

I was just going by the 30" tall as the tank looks taller than it is wide
