Hi guys, I looking for a midwater schooling for my new set up. I like the tiger stripes of the barbs but I also like the look of the Columbians (pseudo piranha). I could keep both but really don't want to go that route. Thanks for any advice.

I have no experience with columbian tetra but one with tiger barbs was rather unpleasant. 6 ripping up 1 Boesmani rainbow in a 200gal. Might need a species tank or a bigger group in a large tank or equally a-hole tankmates.

If your willing to have a species only tank a large school of tiger barbs (depending on tank size) would look awesome! However even though I love them these are one of the few smaller schooling fish I wouldn’t want in a community tank.

If you like the look of Columbian’s and are planning on other fish in the tank they would be the way to go! I’ve kept them in the past and they do look great as they get older and keep to themselves in a community tank.

Thank guys, nothing in there tank just yet. It's a 75 and I was thinking of using it as a cichlid grow out tank. Someone on eBay has a grab bag of 10 for $69, some of the ones they offer I actually want. Personality wise, how do these two differ, or I could go with rainbows.

Be careful of keeping barbs in planted tank. Many will eat plants, including Columbian, Rosy and tinfoil.
