After my last Peacock Bass died I decided to try something new in my 230gal in my living room. The only remaining fish is the 7 1/2 year old Jurupari.
Many think of silver dollars as just dithers. But to me they can be a focal point of an aquarium. In December 2025 I bought 12 tiger silver dollars from 2 places in Florida off of Ebay. 8 small ones about the size od a nickel and 4 about the size of a quarter or slightly more. One small one died from the stress of shipping. So there is a total of 11 Tiger Silver Dollars.
I also got 2 small turquois Severums because?? Well because I just love cichlids and I have never had Severums.
The SD's are growing rapidly. The small ones are the size of quarters and the large ones are, well, the size of a silver dollar.
I want to update this thread as the SD's grow. They are eating FD Brine Shrimp and various types of pellet food.

Just a quick up date. No pics.
The severums started exhibiting some territorial behavior and even breeding behavior. These are fish that are about 4-5 months of age! The larger one was really growing fast. The smaller one a little less so. They both ate a lot.
Anyway, the large severum started picking on the 9 inch Jurupari ! That is not gonna fly with a fish that has been with us almost 8 years.
So I had to get rid of that severum and now all is well again.

I would love to have a large school of silver dollars in one of my tanks. Unfortunately, I like to have live plants in all my tanks. Plants + silver dollars = no more plants.
