Yeah... I just saw a couple at my LFS and got interested.. Im going to stay away... but i do want to add another fish or 2 to my tank... im debating on another oscar (would love 2 of em!) or something else of nice size... (texas?/uaru/jd).. or a couple smaller FM/Convict/sevrum size etc..) hmmm any advise or exp?. thx a lot!

Oscars and Firemouths go well together... or Salvini (a female with her gorgeous yellow/red/blue/ colours to set the tank aglow!!. Oscars just ignore them as they're all to small to bother them.

There will be certain death in a tank with a butti in it. They're real butt head know what I mean. My oscars a beast tho it will fights anything. I can't house any fish with it anymore

im leaning a 2nd oscar... however , in the past i have wanted a salvani .. is it possible to tell male/female as a juvi?

Yeah female salvini have the dark blotch on the dorsal fin and are usually more colourful with less of the blue but more of the yellows and reds.

Chocolates, Acaras, sometimes JD, Severums, Cons are usually all good mates for Oscar. Putting 2 O's together is more often fail than not. And if you do get a M/F pair, they will likely bully the rest of the tank. Texas and other similar aggression fish not good for Oscar. I think your Jag will eventually prove that. Another very good looking fish, a CA but very mild is a Nicaraguan. Females are stunning, I have one in with 3 Severum and tank works very well.

If you ask me you'll soon find that Buttikoferi are extremely boring fish to own much like most African species. I saw a tank full of them last week and you had to look twice to properly notice them... No real colours and just shoaling and looking very random. American cichlids have the greatest diversity in colour and character.

PS... Buttikferis may be a tough fish, by the way but not in the same league as the beasts of the central American waterways... so if Badass cichlids are your thing better check out these real nasty cichlids, but with a lot more colour and character ;)

Buttis are pretty dang tough I wouldn't bet against them against any fish. Build like a bulldozer doesn't matter what fish up against they are beasts not saying there aren't more badass fish but they are up there
