It's not a mozambique. Could be a Nile. They've got a taller profile, smaller mouth and red in the iris.

that's what i thought at first but my Oreochromis niloticus (and the others that i've seen) are wide bodied and with pointed mouth. IMO, amehel0's fish could be neither mossambica nor niloticus.

Not all niles look the same, there are quite a number of subspecies. But I do agree that they might not be niles. Aureus perhaps. I know that mossambicus was intentionally released into Australia waterways to take care of a certain aquatic beetle/invasive plant problem but that isn't a mossambicus.

Stump.

I vote mariae. Almost all the niles I've seen have some really apparent red edges on thier fins. Of Course, if I'm not mistaken tilipia worldwide have been MASSIVELY interbred by the fish farming industry so god knows what you're getting :)

Agreed. Most market tilapia I've seen show characteristics largely of O. niloticus or O. mossambicus but never have I seen a market tilapia that looked exclusively like one or the other.

If you have a HOB filter toss a handful or 2 of rock salt in the morning, then another couple in the evening, and test until you get to the salinity or specific gravity you want to achieve.
Or if you have a sump toss it into a tray or right in the sump.
I do this if I get a case if ich, and test until the salinity tops 3ppt, usually takes 2 days with no ill effects so far.
:iagree:
