Depends on availability of foods and space. Growth rate simply varies and you don't expect all of them to grow similar. There is bound to be a runt in a group if it is outcompeted for food.

mine used to grow at one inch per month, which is about as fast as I have had a fish grow.

feed them well do some water changes they will grow fast

I've had three for about 4 months, and as soon as they got big enough to get the cichlid staple pellets down I could almost hear them growing, they were an inch and a half shorter than my smaller oscar a month ago. Now the bigger one is about a half an inch longer than the same oscar.
 
you may want to get some of the albinos or a gold form too to add color to your tank and variation :)
