Well, I finally have my 220 pretty much all setup and awaiting water. Now, I'm pretty nervous about filling it because it's just a lot of water to have in my living room. Any tips I should use when filling it for the first time?

Thanks.

If you have a python you could fill it with that.

New or used? If you are worried about it, you could fill in stages checking for issues as you go.

Oh, I will actually have no problem filling it with the hose. I am more curious about any tips to make sure it's not going to blowout for any reason. It's drilled for three 1.5" overflows and two 3/4" returns that go to the 55 gallon sump in the stand. It is sitting on a wooden stand (I believe that is made by Aqueon) which I modified by putting 4x4's on the top and bottom to add height.

Make sure it's 100% level. If just do 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, then finish it off if each fill level goes fine.

I agree make sure to check level left to right and front to back. Other than inspecting the silicone, if its good, fill in increments and keep checking for level as you add weight. The worst thing for a tank is to have opposite corners being out of level this puts a twisting force on the tank and will eventually cause a leak or failure.

Thanks a lot everyone. I might go ahead and fill it in steps.

It is a used tank. It's actually an old O'Dell tank and from what I've seen it seems to be a fairly heavily built tank. The glass is about 5/8" thick, I think it's actually 15mm exactly, and the tank is 30" tall. All the silicone looks good but I don't know if it's ever been resealed before. I did successfully test fill it when it was on my garage floor, but of course that was in my garage and it wasn't on the stand. The stand was actually purchased separately and is also used, but looks great.

I guess I just need to man up and do it already. Lol. I will probably wait for the warmer weather that is coming next weekend before getting the hose out.
