Tips for filling 220?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would use gallon jugs and put 30 gallons of water in it at one time. And then let it sit there for a hour or two and then put another 30 gallons in it. And fill the tank up half way one day and then fill the rest up the next day to see how the stand and tank along with the floor react to the weight of the 220 on it.

Did this with my 75 gallon fish tank when it was sitting on a old 1920's dresser.

Well, I finally have my 220 pretty much all setup and awaiting water. Now, I'm pretty nervous about filling it because it's just a lot of water to have in my living room. Any tips I should use when filling it for the first time?

Thanks.
Put the hose IN the tank.

The floor will be fine, it's a concrete slab. It's the stand that I want to make sure about.

I would make sure the tank is level, inspect the silicone in the tank, and then I would fill it. It's not rocket science.

Well, I finally got it filled up yesterday. It's been holding water all night and the pumps have been turning the water over very well. My Siphon Stopper Return from H2Overflow is extremely noisy though. I think I'm going to have to take part of it off and put my own fix in place instead because there's no way I can have it that loud.

Beautiful tank and stand. I wish I had a slab floor to put my large tanks on.... I like to build all of my stands I don't trust the store-bought ones. I know they're designed for but I just can't get over the stapled together 1x3 braces in the back of my 210 stand

I am with you there. The stand is actually a prebuilt stand and I had a lot of the same concerns you mentioned. That's why I modified it to add extra support. All of the lighter vertical pieces are pieces that I added and were all custom cut to fit snug into their particular spot. I was very comfortable that the addition of those supports (four on the front, four on the back, and two on each side) gave me a ton of extra strength. Then, the 4x4's that I added to the top and bottom were mainly for height, but are also there to give a nice rigid top and bottom to keep any of the sides from being pushed out.

This is what the stand looked like originally.
