Don't waste your money on gravel, lights, and decoration. You don't need them to keep your fish alive.
So your implying that we should have boring, lifeless tanks with absolutely no attempt to recreate thier natural enviornment?

what do you know about their natural environment? they have fish intelligence which means they don't give a rat's ass as long as they feel safe.

If you want to recreate their enviroment don't forget NOT to mix fish from different regions together. Are you mixing?

That no fish spends thier life in a bare environment with no light.

Decor and a natural set-up provides safety.

Decor does not provide safety, and from what danger? They will feel safe if you don't mix crazy aggresive and predatorial fish together.

Room light is suffice. Bottom line: They will live.

If you have gigantic rubbermaid containers you just saved the cost of a fishtank.

The most important thing of all is this... balance out how much time vrs. funds you have to devote to your tanks.

Be reasonable with with you start out with.

If you have funds but no time -- plastic everything, over filter, and understock the tank.

If you have no funds but lots of time - DIY and craigslist.

If you have funds and lots of time - We all hate you.

If you have no funds and no time -- 10 gallon tank works well.

What fish are 'they'? Also, why would you want to set-up your tank which shows that you are skint? Are classy tank looks like you arent strapped for cash.
