Tips on shipping ray pups

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always like to include a pinch of Seachem safe to help with any ammonia buildup

Thanks for all the advice people. I have located some styro containers, just have to find the bags and heat packs. I think I am going to ship FedEx, I think that is a bit more trusted than Canada Post, anyone care to comment about that?

Anyone have a CANADIAN online source for the bags? Eh? lol

I also have to find an oxygen source, I wish scuba tanks were pure O2. I should be able to pop into a pet store right before heading to fedex and get them to load it up for me.

Just found a cool source, 2 mil 12" x 24" bags what I need? To ship 2 rays in 1 bag anyway? Found 20 hour Uniheat packs on the same site.

S stratos my Canadian shipper friend, check out "Shipping Supplies" at www.petsandponds.com, they are Canadian. Was going to order 25 2 mil 12"x24" bags and 12 uniheat packs, comes out to $25 before shipping, so like $40-$50. A bit expensive I think, but are they at least the right quality stuff?

I use square bottom shipping bags, doubled.

Square bottom the same as "Gusseted"? Found 12"x10"x24" "gusseted", but of course its the only one without a picture on there. I emailed to company for more info, I feel like gusseted means they have some sort of structure to them which worries me about more areas of potential failure, however they are 3 mil...

from what I looked into a gusseted bag has something that holds the form of a mik carton. Square bags would be ideal and the ones you are looking into seem pretty good.

Found 4 mil 24x24, I have ordered 20 of those. I am looking at ordering the uniheat 20 hour heat packs, used specifically for shipping fish, has anyone used these? How many would you use, 2 3 or 4?

Thanks for the tip. I am still using supplies I bought in bulk on trip to Asia years ago. Recently I bought an Eheim 2260 from petsandponds, was a good deal, prompt delivery. I've never shipped fish with either Fedex or Canada Post. I'd be curious to know the cost. Generally Westjet is around $100 for a box at 10-12 Kg.

Just by way of update, ordered 30 uniheat 40 hour heat packs, in case of lost package, it's cold in Canada.

Busy at work but I'll see if I can call FedEx and Canada post tomorrow and get the low down. I hear Canada post is cheapest, but I'm looking for best handling, I'll see who gives me the bigger hassle. Also I will need to see who accepts packages for overnight the latest.

Gotta locate O2.
