I am wondering the same...How fast do they grow? I have only had mine for about a month. I am guessing he's about 8". It's hard to tell if he has grown any since I see him everyday. My TT swims freely all the time does not hide. He even comes to the top when I am getting ready to feed. He is a pig. I feed Krill,bloodworms,mysis shrimp, tubifex worms,plankton, and glassworms and he eats them all. Are all TT's like this? The other types of eels I had just hid most of the time.

it all depends on how much and what you feed them. THe best diet in my opinion is earthworms, nightcrawlers, mussels. If they are small there mount is still pretty small and you might have to cut up the worms, but as they grow you can train them to eat worms and mussles whole. Feed them til they refuse food, at least once a day, and it will be very soon and you will ahve a monster!!! believe me! THe bigger they get the more aggresive they will get at feeding time, i have a 20" fire eel with my rays and it is hard to get shrimp to my rays because the eel can eat 5 or 6 whole med. sized shrimp before they hit the bottom of the tank.
I have a 4-5" TT that hides in his cave and eats 2 full servings of blood worms a day. Hope to see some growth, then in spring will start with small earthworms!

I have a 5-6" TT. He is out all day and never hides. Have had him for about 2-3 months and he really hasn't grown much. I feed him krill and Frozen Bloodworms. Maybe I don't feed him enough I dunno but he just hasn't grown too much. He has personality though. 
i got a tt eel like 2 months ago and he grew just a little bit. then when we stopped feeding him so much to see if we could keep the water undercontroll better he got the munchies and ate about 8 of my neon tetras. then he grew about an inch or two then he got thicker also. so i think if u mix uo their diet with blood worms, night crawlers and some feeder fish they grow faster
if he is smaller like about 6 inches like mine start with small earthworms or cut up night crawlers
HI.. Feed him different food my 22 inchs TT-eel loves to eat whole shrimp big earth worms, blood worms, cut fish basically anything that fist in his mouth...
As for growth rate not sure but if you want to speed up their growth rate I recommend beef heart super high in protein it should speed up their growth
