I have a 75 gallon tank and he's thrived there and become pretty large. I would estimate him at 12"-13" and very very healthy. My question is what is a fish like this worth? Also how do I go about making sure he ends up in good hands? A local pet store is interested in him but I would rather deal with an individual who will be keeping him. He's very hard to photograph but here is a picture.

OMG, what is so much cooler than him that you want him gone?

Thanks for the words guys, I really don't want to get rid of him but I'm concerned that he may be getting too large for the tank? I really like him, one of my favorite fish, if you think he's comfortable I would keep him I just don't want to be cramping him in there. I've had him for soo long, he was like 2 inches when I got him and now he's just HUGE. Definitely a great catfish.

He should still be manageable in that tank for some time if filtration is adequate. How are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? Is he the only fish in there? What tells you he is ready for a new home? Is his behavior suddenly different than it used to be?

To be honest I'm not sure what the nitrate levels are. I need to learn more as I start to manage my aquarium myself instead of relying on my service guy. I know the filter is over sized for my set up and I have a bubbler in there so the water flow is rather strong and my fish are active. His behavior has been consistent as he mostly lies under a rock formation all day and he's active obviously at night. Maybe I'm over reacting but he's by far the largest fish in the tank. I just assumed that my tank was too small for a fish this large but he does seem content. I'll show you a picture of the set up so you get an idea of what I have and if it's over crowded.

1st. i think ull regret it, i gotrid of my peacock bass and gator gar and regreted it.
2nd. what are the dimensions of your tank? as long as hes got room to turn around he should be ok. in addition take a look at 125gal tanks, if the footprint of your tank is close to that of a 125 then you should consider upgrading

Thanks for all of the info. I've seen 125 gallon tanks with a similar foot print to my tank and I'm thinking about upgrading to a larger set up while keeping my existing. I will post better pics at feeding time tonight so you can see what is swimming around in there. I agree now with the comments and I'm leaning towards keeping my sun cat and maybe getting a larger tank for him. He has plenty of room to turn around and can swim in there pretty freely. I just read that they can grow up to 18" and thought maybe I was limiting the growth of him since I can't imagine him being that large in this tank.

i think 18in is the max, ive never seen one that large. he might be maxed out where hes at
